    I was playing in a competition yest and one of young lads had 68nett in the morning and he went out to play in the club matchplay that evening. does he have o change his hcap since he shot score or does he play off the hcap he started the day at

    Depends on the rules of the matchplay.

    Some clubs have a rule were you play with the same handicap you started with while others don't

    He should cut himself straight away and aways go on the side of caution

    Yeah, if the matchplay is played off his current handicap, then he must adjust his handicap immediately. Assuming the competition hadn't closed so the CSS couldn't be know yet, he should adjust it based on the SSS.
    If this adjustment was to bring him down close to the margins between a full shot (eg. x.5 or x.6 etc.), he would be safer to err on the low side and play off the lower handicap in case the CSS proved to be tougher than the SSS.
    Playing of a higher handicap than entitled to = DQ but playing off a lower one is OK (just marginally harder on yourself).
