Saab 900 sagging headliner

Ye olde problem with c900s has started to emerge on my car. Sagging headliner. Anyone know someone who could do it and how much would it cost me? From what I can gather repairing the headliner on a 900 requires removing the lining from the car roof and removing the back window etc, which adds to the cost.

    Any thoughts or advice?

    Thanks,

    Ro

I used a stapler on the roof. It worked perfectly and didn't cost me anything.

Staples, pins and needles, I have seen it all, and it works only temporary as the cloth tends to rip. Besides, it just looks plain silly ;-)

You can buy the headlining cloth through the upholsterers in town or through the car trade, and then it's possible to reline the ceiling yourself.
If the 900 is a 3 or 5 door, it's easy to get the cardboard ceiling piece out in one piece, through the back hatch. But a 2 or 4 door, is a bit more complicated: rear window out is possible, but removing one or both front seats, which is easier, should do the trick too...

Take old lining off, carefully scrape off the foamy stuff on the board (yuk, that's the messy bit) then use a good quality (!!!) spray adhesive to stick the new headlining back on.

Can all be done within a day of hard graft :-)

    hi ro

here's a step by step guide to removing the headlining so that you can re-trim it. I also saw ( will dig up link later ) where the headlining cloth was removed completely from the board and the foamy stuff scrapped off and a rubberized/plastic paint spray was used to recover/colour it with great effect.

    hope this helps

Just to follow-up for anyone interested. Dara McCormack is now doing this (through a car upholsterer he works with) - €500.
