In the same vein as the recent PS1 must have's, I'm asking now for sage council while building a Gamecube game shopping list. Only ESSENTIALS please, as there are prob too many just "great" games to go through in one thread. Thanks for the PS1 advice, there were quite a few gems mentioned I had never even heard of. GC wise, I have the following already:

    Resident Evil 0 & 1
    Zelda - Wind Waker
Zelda - Ocarina of Time Bonus Disc (With Master Quest & Majoras Mask)

Thats it I think, there may be one or two more but of lesser known desire. You see my predicament :o Cheers lads

(It's really quiet in here lately, has everyone started playing WoW or something :p)

@ Retrogamer, you sir really are the king of retro games I dof my hat to you!

You forgot Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader.

I'd also have Capcom vs SNK 2: EO as an essential, but only if you have some kind of alternative controller. (I use a PS1 Hori Real Arcade Pro stick through a converter, which also works fine on Wii)

Ah the Gamecube, my most neglected console. My entire Gamecube collection consits of -

    Metroid Prime
    Super Mario Sunshine
    Pikmin

    And that's it!

Tempted to dig the cube out of storage and start buying some of the above.

The standout titles for me are:

    Metroid Prime
    Resident evil 4

    Other notable mentions:

    Super Mario Sunshine
    Viewtiful Joe

Although i enjoyed Zelda: Wind Waker, in hindsight i think it was a rushed game. I mean they actually left a whole dungeon out of the game and just gave you the crystal you were supposed to collect!! Deadlines or not, this is when zelda lost a hardcore fan.

Wind Waker was definitely rushed. One of the dungeons was just a boss rush and that's never been done in zelda before. Still loved the game though and it really did have a lot of charm and looks amazing.

Isn't it against the rules of the forum to have double accounts?

The king missed Star Fox: Assault.

The bonus disc with Zelda: Wind Waker contains only the original Ocarina of Time and the Master Quest variant, EnterNow. Majora's Mask is included in the Zelda Collector's Edition promotional disc.

I didn't miss it, it's a terrible game. The 3 on the rails levels are decent but the rest of the game really is awful.

Why does Retro have to completely spoil anything constructive the rest of us may say by posting such a complete list?
    Not fair I tell's ya!

I think everybody else has mentioned the essentials. I just rebuilt my Gamecube collection. I had to sell it off to finance my escalating crack habit last year, but I will definitely say that no collection should be without games like Bomberman Generation, Super Monkey Ball and Wave Race. I don't think anybody mentioned those yet.

I would also highly recommend anybody with a GC to invest in a RGB cable (trust me, it's worth it for games like F-Zero GX) and there is also the Gameboy Player add-on. Sure you have seen it before, fits underneath the console and allows you to play Gameboy, Colour and Advance games on your tee vee.

It's a great resource to have you guys, thanks very much. Actual real world recommendations from gamers will always surpass generic top ten/100 lists etc. I've more consoles to go through, but the above & the PS1 list will keep me going for a little bit.

    Kudos A&R :)

PN 03 is good too, but be prepared to be sick of the visuals by the end!

Hmm.... I'm not so sure. It was grand playing the story levels but if you wanted to get good upgrades you have to play all the optional levels which were really dull and it's what killed it for me. I must give it another go and ignore the optional missions. I usually love Shinji Mikami games.

    Yeah, Retr0 mentioned everything :pac:

I poured an abnormal amount of time into Animal Crossing GC when it first came out, like frickin' half an hour to an hour a day for months. I have a morbid curiousity to turn it on again some day and see how my town is doing. But that's basically like having a friend, not contacting them for no apparent reason for a decade, and then ringing their doorbell and discovering their garden is full of weeds, and your friend has turned into a talking cat.

I really need to try Animal Crossing on the cube. Love it on the DS and Wii. There was also a Jap only N64 version, I wonder what that's like.

Edit: Theres a copy on the cube for sale on ebay in Ireland at the moment

    Avoiding Retr0's list...

FF Crystal chronicles isn't too bad multiplayer...
Mario Golf is a pretty good Everybody's Golf clone.
Odama is worth it just for the bizarreness of it all!
I enjoyed the two Pokemon games (Colloseum and XD), admittedly not on the scale of the handheld games though. One day, there will be a fully 3d poke adventure! I hope.
The two Megaman collection games, they're NTSC only.

Cube is the console my collection is definitely best, I've prepared a list of all the GC exclusives and am slowly working my way through them...

Just make sure you have a spare memory card (or one of the big ones), damn thing takes up an entire one! Hence, the free one with original copies. I actually had serious issues trying to get a copy with the memory card at the time, don't think places got many copies of the game in in the first place.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,183 ✭✭✭✭Atavan-Halen

Any cube games that come with a memory card will take up a full one

Pokémon box and colosseum are the only others I have.
