Minor but Annoying Issues with Studio XPS 13

I have a one year old Dell Studio XPS 13. There are a couple of issues with it that are irritating and which happen intermittently over the last few months.

    1. When I close the lid and the laptop goes into sleep mode or hibernation or whatever, I cannot wake it back up when I re-open the lid. I have tried moving fingers across the Touchpad, clicking the mouse buttons, pressing the on button - nothing works. I end up having to turn it off and on again. This happens almost every time.

    2. When I reopen the lid having closed it with the laptop still on, the wireless connectivity "Hotkey" or whatever it's called goes crazy. It keeps flickering between on and off and the onscreen internet connection symbol keeps switching on and off too. I have to restart to get rid of this problem. This problem only happens occasionally.

I'm just wondering if anyone familiar with the laptop knows a simple solution to these problems. I know very little about computers so I know it could be something stupid I'm doing wrong or a simple setting I need to change. If not, I will contact Dell as it is under warranty - I just want to rule out any blindingly obvious answers first.

    Thanks. :)

same happened with my dell,i went to control panel, then system and maintenance, then battery options and on the left hand side you'll see'change what closing the lid does'.then choose what you want.

just one thing. when you open the lid is the power button flashing? you need to press power button once to take laptop out of hibernation.. pressing the keys will only wake it up if it is in sleep mode.. if your laptop is under warranty ring dell as mentioned (but have a stong coffee first and be seated:D)

    Thanks for all the replies.

Thanks - I had never come across this section before. It was already set so that closing the lid means it "sleeps".

I think this is what I want - ie when I reopen it I would only have to press keys or move on the touch pad to wake it up.

So I think there must be something wrong when it won't wake back up this way on reopening the lid.

    No it is not flashing.

I think I will ring Dell. I definitely think the thing with the wireless Hotkey going mad is something wrong anyway.

I have rang them in the past with previous laptops and they were always completely helpful and solved all my problems quickly. I have had some problems understanding accents though unfortunately - but it all worked out in the end.

    Thanks for your help.
