Who would ye reckon are the players that promised much but never really delivered consistently on the world stage.i am talking about those who won majors and who didnt.I include curent players in this also,

For me it would have to be

    At the Moment:
    Jelle Klaasen
    Adrian Lewis
    Michael Van Gerwen
    Daryl Fitton
    Gary Anderson

    Past-ish:
    Chris Mason

Definitely Adrian Lewis for me anyway. He had so much going for him at an earlier age. Of course he's still young, so hopefully he can do something about it.

Another one would be Kirk Shephard. After reaching the 2008 Final (However lucky some people might say it was), he never accomplished anything after that really.

Kirk Shepard and Mike Van Gerwen as the young guys of late. Older id have to say Wayne Mardle, His skills a few years back he looked certain to win a world championship but he has dropped off big time lately

When Mick McGowan played Taylor in the world's a few years back I said to people that he'd be in the top 10 within a few months. Sadly he's stalled the last few years, although the struggles he's had with illness are a definite mitigating factor. Hopefully he can rediscover his old form cos it'd be great to see an irish man in the latter stages of the majors

It's hard to quantify this with Phil Taylor in the mix. For me it's Terry Jenkins. Although the classification of a "Major" in darts is a bit loose, (From what i can make out, it's every televised event, but seems to change from tournament to tournament.) he has been in the final of quite a few without winning any.

Whoever said Wayne Mardle should be laughed at IMO. He is a nothing player who has been given more chances that most because the PDC and SKY love him to bits. How many Premier League Wildcards did he get? Two or Three?

Mark Dudbridge is a player for me that has been a huge disappointment. After reaching a World Championship final and a World Matchplay final he promised much but he has really not lived up to expectations and hasn't had a good run in 1 of the majors with years.

The problem with the young players in my opinion, is that they are full time professionals but they do not seem to be getting close to the big guns.

So, if they are practicsing away as they should be, then it looks like they've reached their peak, so they will be relying on others to drop off or retire before they get to the top of the pecking order.

So, the excuse of he's only young doesn't really wash, does it?

Lewis, as much as I dont like him, seems the only one who may bridge the gap, but he has to get Taylor outof his system first, and beat him on TV and then go on to win.

The "great entertainer" himself, I hope we never see him on tv again. In fairness Klaasen is showing a bit of form in the PDC compared to some of the other younger players, as for where are they now, Shayne Burgess, Paul Williams (I remember him doing a 9 darter in Irvinstown years ago), Alan Warriner..

they have been saying that Adrian Lewis is the future of the sport for the last 5 years...do they not realise how many newer and better players have come in! Lewis is a septic player
