Not sure this is the right place or not so move if needs be.

What do ye make of this....I buy a lot of books online. Prob a few every month at this stage. I understand highstreet book stores are under pressure competing with online retailers but often the books I want aren't in store and they have to go about ordering for me.

Recently I looked up "booksunlimited.ie" that has the slogan at the top of the page "a irish book chain supporting the Irish Economy and Irish Jobs". They also proclaim delivery to ireland only €4.95 for any size order.

Is it me or is this a bit much? I would buy books off an Irish retailer but that postage seems excessive. Most other onlinebooks retailers offer free postage

For one book it's excessive. For 5 books it's not.

I agree but why not charge for subsequent books or offer individual postage? It just seems very high and maybe more thought by the business to get around it and make it cheaper - especially within Ireland

That's about the cheapest courier rate available, so all they are doing is passing on the cost of shipping. Other companies that offer "free" shipping are adding it in somewhere along the line as quite simply there is no delivery service that will deliver for nothing.
