Ink cartridges empty

Bought a HP F4580 printer recently, a bit of a problem in that the ink cartridges don't last very long. The ones that came with it were used up in a few hours so I bought 2 new ones - black + colour, but after printing off about 300 sheets max the ink is used up in them! New printers only have tester inks installed.
