I've applied for the Lidyl management graduate programme. A sign of how desperate I am. I certainly don't intend on doing a retail management degree!

Any chance one of the two posters above will see this thread once I post this? Doubt it. Anyone else care to tell us how you got on in the course? I received an email today telling me Iv made it through the first stage and am invited to the recruitment thing in July. Anyone else get an invite?

From what I'v heard, they work you to the bone. It's supposed to be very demanding.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 laualaua

Iv heard that and that nobody stays with them very long so don't know if I should take it, think I may go to the recruitment day and learn more about it

Drop out rates are supposed to be huge, that's right. But hey look at it this way - the more than drop out.. the easier it is for us to succeed.

Can I ask what date you're to go on? I'm not going to be in the country on the 21st when I'm to be in.. I'm wondering are they running the recruitment day into the next week. That'd suit me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4 laualaua

Heard the dropout rates are very high alright... My recruitment day is the 7th Of July, so they are probably on throughout the month!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

7th? ..that'd do! I must get onto them and see if I can get it changed to an earlier or later date.

    Thanks mate.

Interesting, tell me more about what you ve heard. Honestly I believe that if you are not able to give 150% of yourself towards the degree, you ll never gonna achieve it. I mean 150%..Extremely difficult and im up for the challenge. let me know if you need some motivation. Together we could become deputy managers in the next few years. what do you think?

I was also invited to the recruitment day. There is going to be loads of people and only few will be accepted unto the second stage. Are you ready?

Hey. how was the recruitment day? Did you make it to the interview stage?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

Howiya. It was grand yeah. I was the only dub in the place, did you pick me out :P Yeah I got the email today, what about you?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 crusifixio2000

yeah I picked you out cos I knew that you are really interested in this degree. Congratulations that you made it through to the interview stage, same as me too. where was your recruitment day? Mine was in DBS, Dublin. you? Any Idea how many people made it through to the interview stage?

Ps: I really cant wait to start the degree cos im extremely interested in it.(its my kind of stuff)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

How did you pick me out if you weren't even at the same recruitment day as me? Mine was in Mullingar on the 7th. I haven't got a clue, no. There was 30 odd at my recruitment day, that's all I know.

You know that you haven't actually got a place in the programme yet, don't you? You need to be successful during the interview stage in August to be in it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 crusifixio2000

Well I ve been following this thread and I saw your enthusiastic towards this management degree.

200 candidates made it through the recruitment stage, but I assume that only half of those will be put through the final interview stage.

I know I havent got the place yet but I always love to remain positive. I know that the interview will be tough, but its left for me to deliver. And believe me TangyZizzle I will deliver. I believe in myself and I will do my best to pass this interview. (Just being positive)

Did you know anyone that made it through?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

Where did you get that figure? Do you know how many people made it initially to the recruitment stage before being ruled out for the interview stage?

No but I was never going to know anyone since my default date was the 21st but I changed to the 7th, meaning I was moved to a different region. You?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 crusifixio2000

The HR department told us. There were nearly 1000 applicants, 800 were ruled out and only 200 made it to the recruitment stage. In my estimate, being that 30-40 candidates is needed for the degree, I believe that 80-100 candidates will made it through to the interview stage.

Mine was the 21st too. where about do u live, Dublin? what level of education r u at?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

They're some interesting numbers - certainly a confidence booster as well to know that that many have been ruled out yet we're still in the mix.

North County Dublin. I recently received a FETAC Level 5 in Retail Studies which is(I believe) the reason that I've made it this far. It's equivalent to a Leaving Certificate. Why are you interested in that?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 25 crusifixio2000

I was asking to get the reasons why you ve made it this far, and yes your FETAC Cert was one of those.

I am interested because I want to know more about the people that I'll be competing with at the interview.

Have you made any preparations for the interview?
What date is your interview, and where?

awh! congrats!! do u know if we will be working full time or part time with lidl??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

Didn't you attend the Recruitment Day? If you did you would know the answer to that question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

ehh yeh i did but they never said??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

We were told that the course would be in 3 month blocks.. The first 3 months being in DBS, the second 3 being in your training store and so on. I find it hard to believe that this wasn't explained to you on the recruitment day. That was the whole point of the exercise.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

no you're wrong... its week on week off meaning...

we start on the 24th october in dbs and after the first week we start to work in a lidl store... every week we switch... thats why we get paid salary every month???

Why are you asking me about what you think you already know? I and the 30/40 other people in Mullingar were told it would be in 3 month blocks. To do it on a weekly basis would be ridiculous. It would see about half of the course participants having to move from there rural homes to Dublin City and vice versa every 7 days. That would be completely impractical.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

what are u talking about?? i was at the dublin reqruitment day... i was told that we pick a lidl store to work in! whichever is more convenient for us and we obviously go to college in dbs which is in town... we dont move to a different store every week! thats why its one week working and the next in college and vice versa???

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

I didn't comment on what recruitment day you were at. Yes, we all get to choose which store we work in and we will all attend the course in DBS.. which I'm well aware is in town. I never said we move to a different store - as that, along with working one week and studying another(as you think will happen) would be completely impractical.

It's going to be 3 months of course work in DBS followed by 3 months of working in a store. The reason for this set up is that a lot of students will be coming from areas far far outside of Dublin. For them, living in Dublin for a course one week then going home to, let's say Tralee to work in a store for another would be just plain stupid - hence the 3 month block period.

Somewhere along the line you've got your wires crossed. That or you're a troll.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

First of all dont be getting cheeky with me. I only asked a question. That was what I was told and I am travelling from outside of ireland for this course and that is why i remember well what i was told. im sure YOUR WIRES ARE CROSSED OR YOU'RE THE TROLL :)

THANKS FOR YOUR SO CALLED "HELP"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

That's mad how your grammar and spelling cleaned itself up like that. I never offered help :pac:

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

What is your problem? You have a really bad attitude I can tell! Why did they accept you I'll never know! I really hope I dont bump into you while at college.

Look mate. You asked me a question you knew the answer to and when I gave you mine you lambasted it. To me it looks like you're the one with the bad attitude.

How are you going to know if you bump into me or not. I'm not going to go around with a nametag with 'TangyZizzle' written across it.

I'll also make the same I don't know why you've been accepted into the course remark about you - as I can see your someone who doesn't understand the clear logic of having the 3 month block formation to suit people living in rural areas.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

okay "mate" listen you may be right about the 3 month block formation but why call me a troll or say my wires are crossed? I just dont understand why we would be getting paid to go to college... I am moving to Dublin from Denmark and I thought we would be getting paid monthy? Thats how I was going to support myself. Now you're telling me we will be in college for first 3 month block so obviously we wont be getting paid for those months am i right?

    Anyway

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

I'm sorry about the "I don't know why you've been accepted into the course" remark.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,292 ✭✭✭TangyZizzle

I'll keep this short and sweet since I'm in a hurry.

I know it sounds too good to be true, but we really will be getting a monthly salary of about €1,300 - even for the months that we will be attending college.

    Apology accepted and ditto.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14 Angel19

Okay thank you :) It makes sense to me now lol. Hopefully see you in October so :)

You switch every 3 months and not every week.
Were u really paying attention on the recruitment day ha?
Also note that you may be kicked out of the course if your performance is poor in your first 3 months of study. and it continues..............

They are very strict if you miss any days when you are in the college block so be prepared for phone calls if you decide to take any days off! Also they will deduct money from your allowance if you miss a day. I have a friend that is doing this course, she really enjoys it. Its a great opportunity for those who can not afford college full-time.
