Serious amount of midges about

Went running there earlier (I'm in the Louth area) in a GAA club, I do this a few times a week as part of a workout, ran anyway and got everything done. As I went for a warm down I stopped and began to walk for awhile I realized the front of my tshirt was covered in these little fly f******.
I thought it was odd as I come here a few times a week and there aren't an unusual number about, it's the summer after all in a rural area but they were everywhere, not only the field but the entire complex there were swarms of them all the way out to the car park and further to the gate entrance!
I knew they would be all over me by the time I reached my car but made a run for it anyway, believe me when you're sweaty and surrounded by midges it's not a great feeling having dozens of 'em crawling all over your face and body.
The shower I had afterwards was eventful, felt great! Ah the joys of summer :pac:

    Loads of midgets in Louth?

The Windscale disaster of '57 is still reaping it's terrible harvest. :(

Love it when people say they got bitten by midgets. Always get this funny image of a rampaging dwarf.

Noticed this earlier too. Went out and came back covered in the buggers!
There seems to be a lot more this last few weeks.

Were you wearing particularly bright clothing? They seem very attracted to luminous yellows, oranges etc.

    They live in long grass.

Went out to drink a few cans on the little hill in front of my house one Summer evening.
I left the sittingroom window open. When I came back the place was swarming with them and some ****ing moths.

Hoovered up the midges and shot at the moths with an air gun.

Citronella oil is great for keeping them away.

I couldn't believe the amount there a few mins ago coming back home. Walked down to a friend, by the canal and lots.
Crossed over the other side of the road away from the canal, still loads, unbelievable and def much more than last year. Wasn't as bad coming back but thinking about bringing a flame thrower with me next time.

    Just in case.

It's not politically correct to call them 'Midges'. They should be called 'Flies of reduced stature'.

  • midges damm i thought this was about midgets .... bit disappointed now

It felt like I was in a b-horror movie from the earlier 80's were nature rises up and takes over civilization.

Someone should bomb these things to hell.
