i connected my aerial to my tv through the sky box and was pleasantly surprised when 15 digital channells quickly arrived , RTE + RTE 2 are now crystal clear ( as good as through satelite ) but TV3 is nowhere to be seen , is this because TV3 is independant of RTE , when i plug aerial directly into tv , the picture is pretty poor , any ideas would be appreciated

    1) This is satellite Forum
    2) There is no Digital Service till 31st Oct 2010
    3) TV3 ought to be there on 1st Nov, but it's partly up to them. RTENL isn't keeping them away.

    TG4 is separate to RTÉ.

TG4 is showing TG4. No test card on it.

He means that you should tune them back in again either automatically or manually by entering the channel number for your nearest transmitter that your aerial is directed towards. Three Rock transmitter is at Ch54 for instance. :)

    Can you clarify, please?

In the original post you're saying you can't get TV3. The reason has been explained that it's due to TV3 not being broadcast.

However, you're now saying it's TG4 you can't get. Which is it??

    Hint:
TV3.. a lot like ITV and no Irish.

TG4.. not much like ITV and lots of Irish.

TV3 has some events guide in Irish.

I fail to see how looping terrestrial through a Sky box would be improving the reception, compared to a direct aerial connection?

What 15 channels are you getting with the aerial?

I suspect he is looking at the analog tuner in the negative scenario. It should be no different in either scenario

15 channels sounds like an analogue cable service, though TV3 and TG4 should be there

There are actually 15 or 16 channels on digital when you include the radio channels

looping it through the sky box ( db- t tuner ) gives you RTE digital analogue , rte is a pretty poor reception through analogue alone

i had the aerial and have the box so no effort was required

    as for what 15 channells

    rte 1
    rte2
    rte news channell
about a dozen radio chanells including radio one , 2fm and a bunch of others

TG4 is highlighted but the only picture i get is a NO VIDEO text across the screen

    Moved to Terrestrial.

First off the Sky box does not have a DVB-T tuner in it.

All you are doing is passing an RF signal from the aerial through the Sky box to your TV.

Your TV has an MPEG4 DVB-T in it. That is how you are receiving DTT.

Digital and Analogue are 2 different broadcsting mediums.

Connecting the aerial directly to your TV rather than through your Sky box will be just as if not more effective.

Its your TV that has the tuner not the Sky box which is only acting as a pass through.

Now, what model TV do you have and where are you in Ireland.
