Ok, so I just signed into my hotmail, first two mail ave attachments, 1 is a PDF, the other a word document.

They don't show up on the iPad like they do on the net book..I realise I have to download a PDF viewer, if I do this, can I open op PDFs directly from the email, like on a net book?

In order to view the word doc, do I have to download the "words" app by apple, or is there a cheaper way?

I know I can forward them on to my gmail to view them but that's too time consuming.

    Thanks.

are you signing into hotmail through the safari web browser?

if you set up your email account through the email app then pdfs and docs open without any other requirements. you certainly don't need the words app.

goodreader is a very cheap app that opens nearly every type of file if you can't set up hotmail through the email app.

If using the mail app, at the bottom of the email you should see the attachment. Tap the attachment and you should get a choice of compatible apps you can view the document. Recommend GoodReader as well here.
Don't use hotmail myself but just tried clicking on a word attachment within gmail in the browser and it opens within the browser.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply.

I have tried setting up both my hotmail and gmail account through the mail app, however, after setting them up, when I go into the mail app, it just keeps saying"checking for mail" but does nothing...any ideas?

On a side note, is apples 30 day no quibble refund policy on iPhone applicable to iPad also?

    Thanks

i'd say it's something small that needs tweaking. i don't use hotmail myself but i imagine it's very like setting up a POP3 a/c. see if hotmail has a walkthrough on how to set up in outlook - that would do you.

i would your minimum consumer rights would dictate that you can return it for a full refund within 28 days but only if it's unopened. i imagine apple have the same 30 day policy for all of their products but someone else here can confirm that i'm sure.

This is very odd as my gmail and hotmail were set up in seconds. Delete both accounts and start again. Double check wifi is turned on too.

As said above PDFs and Word docs open fine, Goodreader is well worth the 79cent too.

Thanks for the reply naasrd...turns out I wasn't doing anything wrong, I just restarted the iPad and now bot my gmail and hotmail accounts are working fine in the mail app...

So now just 1 more to sort out, my work address is xxxx@ live.ie ,I tried setting this up, though it would be the same stings as hotmail but apparently not, any tips at all?

    Thanks very much

Wow dude, that's very kind of you! Nice to know there are still a few decent skins knocken around here that are willing to devote some of their time to help strangers...really appreciate the offer but just after sorting it...for the live.ie address I had to change from IMAP to POP, then for the outgoing server, I had to put in pop3.live.com....for some reason my brain kept making me type pop3.mail.com!

Anyway all good now, much handier than logging into hotmail manually .

    Cheers
