Non-allergic (vasomotor) rhinitis

Any sufferers out there? Firstly, has anyone any tips apart from never going outside? :(

How do people keep the nasal swelling down to the size of a 'normal' person? Personally I find OTC decongestants much more effective than corticosteroid sprays because of the rapid nasal vessel shrinkage, unfortunately the down side is the rebound effect, obviously.

I had the same problem with the decongestants, and have ended up using salt water and a neti pot (or one of those squeezy bottles, if you're not feeling adventurous!) to flush out the nose twice a day. It has the advantage of not having any chemical element for you to rebound of and it cleans out the gunk amazingly well. I was doing it twice a day for several months first of all and now I only need to use it occasionally. You can also buy those Sterimar things, which basically does the same thing in a less efficient fashion, but the saline solution is sealed in so its much handier to carry around.

I also got an allergy test done a few years ago to try and figure out what was causing it, which picked up an intolerance to dairy, so I've gone over to soy milk, which also helped quite a bit. I've met rather a lot of people with non-allergic rhinitis who swear that dairy milk makes theirs worse, so it might be an idea to talk to your doctor about it?
