Hi, I was hoping to get the Irish Sunday Times for iPad but can only seem to find the UK one. Is it not available? Are there any Irish Sunday papers for iPad?
    Thanks.

I used to be a subscriber. In a nutshell, you subscribe to the UK app, and Irish stories are available online (not via the app) as part of your sub. I found it a bit of a nuisance, to be honest, as Irish sections were often not updated or badly organised.

Irish Sunday papers are a load of crap anyway. There's no reason to read them.

I started using Cloudon yesterday, after reading an article online about it.

Seems to work well enough, but I'd be only using it as a viewer rather than an editor. It also synchs with dropbox which is very useful.

OplayerHD is reduced to €2.69 for today and azul is reduced to that price as well.

Any opinions on media player apps? I use oplayerHD lite (free) myself and find it pretty good, was thinking of buying the full version just to remove the ads. Some players, like oplayerHD, have an issue with not supporting ac3 though, but I'm not sure how big an issue that is, as I haven't updated the app since support was removed.

I have oplayer for my phone and I have that on my iPad too, is there any difference between the HD and the regular oplayer? Or is it just optimised for the iPad? (Regular oplayer's menu is stuck in portrait mode)

HD is the ipad version of oplayer.

I know that, I'm just wondering is there any difference between that and the one for the phone? (Which as I said works fine, it's just the menu is stuck in portrait mode) :)

Reeder 2 for iOS is now available. Pretty snazzy. iOS 7 ready. It's a paid upgrade unfortunately, but it's universal so you'll only have to buy it once.

For those with a US iTunes account, I had the NBC App and it was great because there was no need for a VPN - it worked perfectly from an Irish ISP connection. They released an update last week to coincide with iOS7, annoyingly they now check if you are in the States so a VPN is required. Anyone who happens to have the App, keep it in mind. On the plus side, the updated App looks much nicer.

Been using Zine a lot lately. It's a news curator that displays articles based on your preferences. You can then state whether you Like or Dislike an article, in order to for it to constantly feed you articles that you are actually interested in. I find it great, especially compared to Currents and Flipboard. Those Apps are great if you like to be fed news from particular websites. Zine tends to find more articles from websites that I don't generally visit, it still have an interest in.

Do you realise that in the bottom right hand corner theres a small round icon you can press to have iphone apps scaled up to ipad size? It's still not a dedicated ipad app but it does at least fill the screen and look the part when scaled up.

I don't think there's an Irish Sunday Times available online ,there are some other papers available though. Get the app Press Reader and it will list a lot of them and makes them available to purchase and download within the app.You can subscribe or buy individual issues. The Sunday Business post
also has it's own subscription based app although last time I used it I wasnt very impressed.
If you like reading up newspapers then this is good.

Haven't looked for this in ages but are there any decent cinema times apps out there? I've had a look around the App Store but can't see anything.

    Cheers.

I always found the entertainment.ie cinema app to be great. Could be an iphone app but it'll still do a grand job

Hi everyone, so a new ipad user here (christmas present).

Sorry for being lazy but as the thread is quite long was looking for a few reccomendations for apps for news and football news? I have an android phone and use the sky news and sky sports news apps but they are paid on the ipad?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,719 ✭✭✭✭Earthhorse

Good apps for news would be Zite or Pulse. They allow you to aggregate news from different sources. I use Zite and haven't got the latest version of Pulse but it's surely worth a look.

A lot of people recommend Flipboard but I never warmed to it myself. Best thing is to download all three and take them for a test drive. They're all free. I can't recommend a sports news app specifically but the above should allow you to pull in news from sports websites too.

It's also worth downloading the 12 Apps of Christmas app; a fee app every day from yesterday for 12 days. It's always a mixed bag but might give you an idea of the kind of apps that are out there.

Sky iPad apps are free if you are a sky subscriber.

Eurosport app is free and is great for sports news

TV guide. The one with the heart logo has all the Irish channels for both UPC and SKY systems.

Apart from Apps, you can download the Daily Mirror for free to Newstand, this will contain that days TV listings (as well as news/sport etc.)
