Why do people keep asking for permissions on the net:confused:. No offence to you but why cant you go and meet local farmers?? Just visit them for a chat and ask, all they can say is no.

Would ANYONE be willing to sign a gun licence application for someone who had to go on the internet to meet landowners????????

Sounds like a crazy idea to me.

I've seen many lads try and get permission online, it just don't work. All over Ireland and the UK. People need to meet you face to face, in the pub, in the street, at the mart/shop/post office etc.

    I agree with John.

You may be 100% sound, but the fact that you thought this was a good idea, suggests poor judgement. That alone is enough to keep my biro in my pocket.

I have given permission many times in the past, but I most certainly would not allow even to casual acquaintances I meet as listed above, I would need to know the individual a bit better than that, I have read some of the op's other post and see he has a genuine interest, that is why I recommended a gun club.

Also the fact that he is willing to meet, how come he cant meet local landowners?? As LC said you may be 100% sound but on the internet it dosnt look good.
Also Farmer Joe replies to give you permission, He is 2hrs drive away. Can you gaurentee your services to him when he needs vermin control??

That wasn't my point, but to meet someone face to face in the beginning is a start on the road to getting to know them better and then gaining permission. It's not an easy situation to be in if you've no "in" to the farmer/land owning community, but you must start somewhere. Friends of friends, gaining one permission then having good word of mouth spread about the shooter is the usual progression. My point was that you need to meet the people face to face rather than by phone or electronically. Offering to help out at busy times on the farm and generally coming across as a good sort doesn't hurt either.

On the flip side of the Gun Club side I wouldn't give permission to lads in the local ones as most are utter yahoo pot hunters. Mention a greycrow, magpie or fox to them and they start looking at their shoes. But, there are very good GC's in other areas.

Bear in mind too that getting 'permission' from someone/for somewhere you'll never go or have no intention of actually shooting over amounts to making a false declaration on the application form, an action that can have serious consequences.

The ONLY way to do this is to make personal contact with landowners within a reasonable distance of you, and over whose lands you will actually go shooting.
