Just on the random i decided to have a look for unkle on wiki as i heard there was a mention of them at electric picnic.

UNKLE - Where Did The Night Fall. Fantastic! new UNKLE. So i go and get my hands on it and Im listening to it atm, and i have to say its a FAR cry from war stories, even never never land.

war stories is in my top 10 albums. This sounds like they had the material to match it, but its a shoddy recording or the other recording ideas that made war stories amazing (chris goss imo) are missing on this. Its pretty dull imo.

Not really feeling it so far.

anyone else getting the same vibe?

It didnt really grab me either. Massive fan of UNKLE, I think the lack of high profile guest artists on this album doesnt help either. Over past 3 records they had Badly Drawn Boy, Ian Brown, Josh Homme, Thom Yorke, a whos-who of indie rock...

I think it goes on a bit long too, Never Never Land on the other hand is unreal (to borrow a track title from Psyence Fiction :D:D), a real hidden gem of an album

yea josh sang on "safe in mind" on that album too. Lanegans on this one, but its really a weak musical effort for someone of his vocal stylings. Id expect more for him to sing along with.

I think they recorded and mixed nnl and ws in rancho de la luna, which is where alot of my fav music is made(afaik its daves house from eodm). I reckon that they felt they could replicate the sound elsewhere in a cheaper, more close to home enviroment. thats the result we have now. Not enough stuff going on in it imo
