a number of people are calling for his arrest upon his arrival in britain for some church related malarky. personally, i think he should be left alone.

i think he's a fcuking genius. he's the greatest troll of all time. he clearly has no regard for any religion. i'm convinced that no man could possibly rise to a position of such influence if they were so stupid as to come out with all the shyte he constantly spouts. he's clearly subverting the church from within, and thanks to his consistently mental efforts, he's got the filthy organisation as close as it has ever been to collapse.

Hes hardly subverting the church. Everything he spouts is just hardline Christian doctrine. He's as conservative as they come. If anything hes bringing the church closer to its true self. Its just that this doesnt sit well with our modern, secular lifestyles.

I dont want to sound like an apologist though. I love Pope Benny. Hes bringing the church down inch by inch and that can only be a good thing!

Ok, was not a clear favourite to succeed as many including me thought an Italian cardinal would get it. But in the news constantly.

One his last statements was he wished to visit Ireland before he died and I remember newspapers and boards gushing over this.

JPII was very different to Benny. He always gave me the impression that he knew it was all a load of aul cobblers but sure if he could do some good on the back of it, so be it. Ratzinger on the other hand seems to prefer the high office, the dry dogma, the jaunty gowns and the POWER. My God i think he loves the power.

I'm a believer of God, etc, but I certainly hope he comes to a painful ending, eg: An arrest of some sort.
He totally deserves it, and he is in no way a genius. If anything he's the opposite. He can't even manage to run one church never mind the entire bunch of them.
Especially trying to cover up the Child Abuse scandals, what I say is f*ck you chap, f*ck you!

I agree with your post but why join a campaign. If you want out just get your baptism certificate changed. Thats how simple it is yet I have never met anyone to do this.

As I said in a similiar thread for the month of May i could not get my seat in the lounge of the local pub for the crowds at the first communions.

You are correct it is very hypocritical.

As you said I've never heard of people changing their baptism certificate, I've only heard of that campaign.
If you want to share info, certainly start a thread on that

I'll respect anybodies view, if you want nothing to do with the CC then go for it, just don't show up once every few years for a baptism, wedding or communion and express your "beliefs"

Do a civil ceremony or don't baptize your child, refuse to be a grandparent, stand by your belief. That's all fine.

There is more to being a godparent then posting a card with €20 note for every birthday, an awful lot more!
Business men/women do deals on a handshake so if your word is worth anything and you go to a Church and volunteer to take a vow then mean it.
If you can't/won't/strongly disagree then don't put yourself in that situation

He was a kid during the war who was forced into the Hitler Youth like all German young lads. They had no choice. It was compulsory! He eventually did a bunk from his 'unit' and made his way home IIRC.

Now I am Catholic myself but don't necessarily agree with everything the Pope says however to brand him an evil cnut is missing the point completely.

He's very conservative and only doing what is expected of the head of the Church ie relating doctrine....again I don't agree with most of it nor would most christians I know but I can accept he's merely doing his job.

As to the whole the-pope-is-a-nazi thing, people really need to brush up on their history!

Benedict was a child during the war and as such would have been obligated to join the Hitler Youth, whether he wanted to or not. He was not a Nazi, they are a different kettle of fish altogether so that argument really is moot.
