Cross Fader

I got a replacement cross fader the other day and when I bring it to the centre it hits the red on the monitor lights. So I turn the output down and play each side separately and they are not even going into the yellow (so it’s to low).

I put the old fader in and played the single channel and turn the output up until it is into the yellow on both sides, put the fader in the middle and it doesn’t go into the red.
The mixer is a Stage Line Mpx-210 and it only has 1000 and the circuit board in the fader, the new fader has 1000 and 20KBx2.

Is it simply the wrong one and in turn to powerful, I want to be sure before I make the journey back into town tomorrow. In case you’re wondering the old one was cracking and going high and low when I moved it(I tried cleaning it)

    Thanks in advance

So your mixer doesn't have a crossfader curve adjustment setting?

Well, you probably have got a crossfader on your hands that's more designed for a hip hop / dnb / garage dj there by the sound of it, loud in the middle and a dip on the cut - if you're a house or a techno head you probably want a slow continuous fade that dips somewhat in the middle.

You should be able to specify to your retailer what it is you're looking for, it's just a question of the actual crossfader curve setting that seems to be the issue.

Any idea what make and model crossfader you have?

AAAHHHHH I see, yeah I mix hands up/trance and stuff like that, dance music to the average person.

I brought the original one into the lads in sounds around and after some searching he gave me this one. Theres no names as its just in a plastic bag, the top of it is silver and has lines on it, there is 20KBX2 and FA-1000 on the chip/bottom.
The original one is black with 0 and 10 and triangles on it with just 1000 on the bottom.

Went in this morning, he says there's no such cross faders for different music and gave me one without the 20KBX2 writing on it. Its working grand now, two trips into town and parking/petrol costs later.

Not once did he say sorry(I assume he thinks he done no wrong) and when asked could I test it, he didn't have anywhere to test it(so how do you sell decks to people, if you cant test/show them off). Threw out a general comment on the cost of a new mixer and he just agreed.

As I said to a friend thank god laptop djaying is becoming the norm, download a programme and make sure you have a half decent laptop.

Rant over and thanks for the help

Have a search for them on this forum, you'll see that kind of sentiment is usual with them. Aquarius get some good feedback though.

sounds around never have had the best customer service, as someone already said, aquarius sound in leixlip are very good to deal with.

Cheers, I emailed Aquarius and they never got back to me, I went back to sounds around as that's where I got the decks from originally. Plus they are now in an industrial estate somewhere in Naas.

In hindsight I probably should have rang Aquarius, ill know the next time
