With Chris Nolan rebooting Superman the one thing I 'don't want him to do is change John Williams opening theme song, he wouldn't do that, would he?

I think he will, he'll want to make it its own thing like he did with Batman. I was hoping he would keep the old danny elfman batman theme too but he didn't.

A lot of people didnt like how close to the old superman movies Brian Singers one was so they will most likely try a complete reboot. I dont think we need another origin stpry though.

Isn't Nolan just overseeing this, I don't think he is actually directing ?

the superman theme song is iconic, imagine changing the star wars or halloween music

I grew up thinking the batman theme was pretty iconic too as it was used in the animated series aswell, but they changed it from batman forever onwards.

The Superman March is far more iconic than Elfman's Batman theme, I'd be very surprised if Nolan's director didn't use it.

They'd be mad to change the Theme Tune! It's part of what Superman is!!!!

But even though I liked Superman Returns, I think that they do need to do a complete reboot!! Returns was basically a carbon copy of the original movie.

Superman saves a plane and stops a load of little crimes
    Lex is pissed
    Lex wants land
Lex tries to destroy America to get land
    Superman intervienes
    Lex uses kryptonite
    Woman saves Supes from K
    Superman stops Lex

It's time for a movie where Lex isn't the only/main Villain and kryptonite isn't used to stop Big Blue!! Bring in someone like Doomsday or Parasite or even the Suicide Squad. And if it's successfull and sequels are made then Lets see darksied!!!!!!!!

Zack Snyder is directing the new Superman film. Nolan is the producer and David Goyer is writing the screenplay.

Snyder being Snyder, I think it is safe to say that the original Superman theme, or at least a modern take on it, will feature in the film at some point. The man tends to value source material too much for him not to have it in a film he is directing. I have a feeling that between him and Nolan that the best and most iconic features from both the comics and Donner;s original film will somehow be introduced into the new film.

Goyer's imput cannot be ignored either seeing as he has a habit of using source material to great effect in his writing also.

    .

It's grand making reference to the old films and comics, you have to do a little bit, but i just didnt't like the fact that the storyline to Returns was almost identical to the original Superman.

I love the Superman films, plus I think David Carradine's speech about him in Kill Bill vol 2 was amazing in it's description of how Superman's the best superhero. But what I've noticed from reading Superman-related threads is that everybody seems to hate Superman Returns. Why is this? I seriously love that film, yes as pointed out above it's a very similar reboot of the original movie, but I still thought it was an exceptional superhero movie.

Dont get me wrong, as i've said before i really liked the movie, it just would have been nice to see something original. What a superman movie needs is a hardcore fight scene!! Supermans most unused superpower (in movies) is his physical strenght. Apart from lifting heavy objects he never has an oppertunity let loose and kick some ass!!!

That is very true! And one of the only times he did get in a fight he had given up his powers and cut his hand on glass... oh Clark, what will we do with you?

Yeah but Snyder is a massive comic fan, and in the comics Superman has plenty of enemies that can go punch for punch with him, and quite a few more powerful than him, so methinks Snyder, Nolan etc will be taking bits from the comics and mixing them with the best ideas from Donner's take on Superman. So that would not mean recycling the same storyline again.

It could be something like taking the personality of Superman that Donner used and putting him against Doomsday/Darkseid/Solomon Grundy/Bizarro/Zod/Gog/Hank Henshaw etc.

Oops I just saw the date on Anthony K's post that came before mine, and thought the posts before it were as recent as his.

    Apols on that.

Thats exactly what I mean, the problem with superman movies is that the directors have always said that the audience would not accept the likes of doomsday/darkseid because it's too far fetched!!!! SUPERMAN'S A BLOODY ALIEN WHO FLYS, SHOOTS HEAT BURSTS OUT OF HIS EYES AND FREEZES STUFF WITH HIS BREADTH FOR GODS SAKE!!!

Me thinks it's time they started listening to the fans rather than movie critics!!!
Which is excatly why I agree Snyder can do great things!!!!!
