For some reason last night I got thinking about various courier services (eg DHL, ParcelForce etc) and their online tracking sites where you can usually see every stop along the way that a parcel makes and it made me wonder whos law applies to international post thats transiting through a 3rd party country?

By that I mean lets say I'm in Ireland and I buy something online from Germany and rather than coming directly its routed through France. In the event that the purchase is legal in both Germany and Ireland but illegal in France could they seize it while its transiting through France or would they ignore it since its not destined for their own country?

And does it make any difference if its being transported by a private courier service like DHL or the state postal service?
