    Ok,

My current phone, Nokia 6300 is bottled after Oxegen, and I was going to get an iPod Touch this summer anyways. Now I'm thinking of getting an iPhone 3GS.

Main things I want from it:
    1. Good Internet
    2. Decent battery
    3. Good camera
    Few questions.

    1. Is it silly getting an iPhone 3GS when then iPhone 4 is just around the corner? Should I get iPhone 4 or is the 3gs good enough?

    2. Can I get the iPhone 3GS unlocked so I can insert my Meteor sim, and use Meteor on the iPhone 3GS?

    3. Can the iPhone 3GS be jailbroken to add 3rd party apps from the likes of Installous?

    4. Is €439 the going rate for the iPhone 3GS 8GB?

    5. Is the 8GB enough? I've about 900 songs + a few apps + the odd video

Be grateful if someone could help me out here, and maybe provide any other information which maybe useful to me in my research of the iPhone.

    Thanks :)

don't know the answer to all your questions but iphone 4 VS iphone 3gs= better camera 5mp V's 3mp better internet (resolution wise) better battery life (apparently)don't have an iphone myself have a Nokia N97 but am planning on getting iPhone 4If i was guying a 3GS i'd get one second hand, there can be some great deals in great condition, especially from people looking to sell to upgrade to the 4.900 songs = 4- 5 GB it can be unlocked & jailbroken - check out the other threads and stickiesnot sure what the going rate is for a new 3GS 8 GB, but it's sim free for €499 on Apple.ie

    Hi,

1st off, if its between the 3gs and 4 I would go with the 3gs. I've had the 3g,3gs and the 4, although the 4 does offer a better camera, I sold my 4 after a couple of weeks as the antenna issue affected me where I live , in side by side speed tests with my mates 3gs ,it failed to load web pages etc over WiFi any faster, and I also found it uncomfortable to hold.

So, at that point I decided not to go back to the 3gs straight away as I wanted to try something different..I'm on MEteor so gave the HTC desire a shot ...I had never used one before ,planned on using it for a bit before selling it on ...

Was very pleasantly surprised, its incredibly fast, smooth, bigger screen, camera with flash ...so what I'd id say is if you have your head set on an iPhone , go with 3gs, but if your open to checking out another device then make sure you check out the desire before you buy .

Main things I want from it:

    1. Good Internet
    - Versus Bad internet? No Flash support on Iphone. Mind you on such a small screen it never bothered me.
    2. Decent battery

    - On all smart phones you will get about a day from your battery if you are using your phone to play games, internet, music, video
    3. Good camera
No Phone will give you good camera, Iphone 4 has much better cam then Iphone 3Gs but nothing to rave about or replace proper cam.
    Few questions.

    1. Is it silly getting an iPhone 3GS when then iPhone 4 is just around the corner? Should I get iPhone 4 or is the 3gs good enough?

I would sit and wait to see if they fixed the reception issue with Iphone 4, then buy it. if you buy now 3GS you might then regret for not waiting for Iphone 4. Best would be to go to the shop once they are out and try one, see if you like the shape of it and the rest.
    2. Can I get the iPhone 3GS unlocked so I can insert my Meteor sim, and use Meteor on the iPhone 3GS?
Yes and no, i mean if you buy one second hand and its unlocked then yes. All depends on what OS its running.
    3. Can the iPhone 3GS be jailbroken to add 3rd party apps from the likes of Installous?
    see above

    4. Is €439 the going rate for the iPhone 3GS 8GB?
i personally think that is a bit much...
    5. Is the 8GB enough? I've about 900 songs + a few apps + the odd video
i think not, you will want 16Gb one

Thanks for the replies guys. I'm really leaning to a 3GS now. Having a glimmer of hope the price will drop a lot when the iPhone 4 is released.

Does anyone know how uch the iPhone 4 will be?
