    hey guys

I am on the hunt for a comercial .I looked at a few vw caddys but dident realy like i have gotten idea of buying a jeep as i would have a bit more use for it as oposed to a van .I have a budget of 6,000 euro . landcruisers are holding there value quiet well and i am told are resionable bulet proof .Troopers are fairly cheep but they are soposed to give injector, turbo trouble.

I have very little experience on jeeps as this is my first vechile purchase .
    landcruiser's
    trooper's
    navara's
    pajero's

What else is there and whats the good and the bad and the price range .

    tia

I would recommend the Landcruiser above all the other options if you have your heart set on a 4*4, but if you are doing big mileage with any motorway miles etc. you will see your savings in tax etc. disappear into the fuel tank.

Landcruisers are 3.0 diesel engines and at anything above 55mph I find that you could nearly watch the diesel gauge drop in comparison to any tdi VAG engine (what you'll have in the caddy or if you can afford one the 4motion VW Transporter(nicest commercial vehicle I've ever had the pleasure of driving)).....

If you need the 4*4 go for it by all means and enjoy the Landcruiser but if it is to just be seen to have a 4*4 when a van would be as good then it shall end up costing you in the long run.

I could really only justify a 4*4 for large towing, I mean fully loaded double/treble axle trailers/horse boxes/cattle boxes as apposed to a small car trailers.

It may seem like a rant but if we didn't need our jeep for towing it would be gone in the morning!! They are too expensive to run for normal day to day driving!!

i completely agree with the cork fella plus they drink it on back roads we found it drank less on the motorway than it does on a day to day just knocking around looking at the cattle. For 6000 you could get a decent machine our 00 landcruiser with 98000 miles is only worth 5000 according to the main dealer and shes only done a bit of trailer work but then the cattle trailer we have is a tri axle  but shes great for pulling no bother with 7 finished bullocks in the trailer were thinking about getting a diesel car now and just keep the jeep for trailer work

I have never owned a 4x4 and only needed one once in the past 5 years to tow home a baler rom Kerry. Cattle all get moved by truck.

We do have a very accessible farm though and you can get close to almost everywhere in the farm within minutes by road.

We paid 8000 for our Landcruiser a year and a half ago but it was a dealer with a years warranty :D They've taken a bit of a hit but they seem to be holding value again....Bulletproof!!!

Its used for moving around a few finished heifers every so often and for a few point to pointers but, my god dhe is a thirsty lady!!!! We had a breakout on a field were renting about a month ago, 2 stupid heifers but i burnt close on 35 quid of fuel over and back home for wire, stakes etc when we finally got them back!!!
Always big panic on so she wasn't spared:D:D But brilliant jeep, almost as good as our first, a 89 pajero...she was a machine!!!!

i dont know if this is true but someone said to us that the new landcruisers gave a bit of trouble. I dont exactly know what the problems were though . But there was a new designed one launched this year so they might have fixed these problems and the old new shape (if that makes sence :D) should have gone down in price i know the dealership we deal with has offers on the old shape new jeeps they have ;)

Some of the LC's are giving bother where the let carbon up past the injector which contaminates the oil and blocks the oil strainer in the sump leading to oil starvation and a heavy shopping list.

I think it is easy rectified if you catch it in time though.
