Going back to the dentist

So I am going to have my teeth checked for the first time in about 6 years. My wisdom tooth has been hurting for a while now so I am finally going.
I know there will be pain involved in getting that out for sure. But I am also worried about a potentially big long list of other things I need fixed, I do drink a lot of coffee and coke!
I haven't been to the dentist in so long because I did not like the last one. Thought I was getting away with it but now I have to go back.
Dentists don't talk down to 'adults' like they do when you were younger do they!? And given how much dental treatment cost, would the let you know what is essential etc.
pretty much terrified now after it being so long.
Can anyone PM a good dentist in Dublin.

no one in any career should talk down to anyone, unless it's a guard after catching you speeding with the whole "in a rush today are we?"

you could be ok, one of my patients this week hadn't been for 12 years, and everything was spotless. well, almost. some people do just get away with it.
    good luck!
