    Hello Forum,

Hope this achieves some success, basically my laptop (Compaq presario F500 OS: Windows Home Premium) has continually failled to start. On pressing the power button it makes a few noises, runs the DVD rom drive but nothing appears on the monitor and soon after it restarts itself and goes through the same process without success and continues this until I plug it out and remove the battery alltogether.

Needless to say its not a decent laptop by any stretch of the imagination but the information on this thing is needed for work so all help is very much welcomed! Cheers in advance

    No beeps?

Sounds like a windows fail or dead GPU. Hopefully the former. Do you need any of the data on it?

It does beep and all the lights initially flash when the power button is depressed, however after failling to start it continually restarts itself and tries again. Nothing on the monitor and failling any help here on boards its going to find itself a new home as a dart board!

You'll need a Windows ????(you didnt say which) HP disk. Use that to try a repair.

Wait, does the screen turn on at all?

Try reboot, hold f8,use arrows, enter select safe mode last known good configuration,
    see here http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/tutorials/tutorial61.html
or try inset windows cd, use R repair windows installation.
IF NECESSARY its possible to remove the hardrive, put it in an enclosure usb caddy copy data to another pc.how old is the laptop/

I cant see what this will achieve, its clearly a hardware / power issue is the bios is not appearing on the screen..

OP - try a cmos reset as a last resort - take out battery, remove power and press power button for 10 - 12 seconds and reconnect everything...

If you need to get your data off the HDD it would be best to get an external drive cradle (USB) and put the laptop HDD into this and connect to working machine..

If you cannot get into safe mode ,its likely to be a hardware fault, try safe mode anyway, ie its possible for damaged display drivers to cause a blank screen, though its unlikely.Safe mode takes maybe 3 minutes to boot up ,no harm in trying it once.
TRY reboot , press F2,or DEL key, try and get into the bios menu.

if the laptop is not proceeding through POST / loading bios it is not related to drivers and there is no point trying to do anything if the screen is blank from second 1 tbh
