Irish customs tend to uses all their money during Christmas and the months surrounding it, you'll probably get away with it.

It won't work in Ireland so don't bother.

Are you really making a big enough saving for the hassle involved?

It won't play Blu-Ray's from europe either, you'll always need to import them too.

PS3 games are region free and so are most Blu-Rays, only DVD and PS1 games won't work. The video output is all HD so as long as he has a HD TV that's fine, the power supply is universal all you need is the below calbe to the mains.

get it up north, youll save more

the canadian dollar is a LOT stronger than it has been against the euro. id say after postage you're probably not gonna save all that much against buying a uk box - plus your dvds will actually work with a euro one

someone said not many blurays are region locked - they are lately... most are in fact

2 years ago maybe. Now they're on a rampage to catch anything with VAT or Duty payable. And not much chance of disguising a box that size......

you sure the power supply is universal? My brother got a US 60gig ps3 when they were launched and he had to get the power supply replaced after it wouldn't work here.

if your having it delivered by post...forget about it, as all couriers from the states and canada declare their goods to the taxman, pay the duty's etc and then bill you before delivering it.

you can risk having it sent via standard post and marked as a present...I'd recommend you stay within the EU when purchasing

My 60Gig PS3 which I bought in Boston is working fine. All I did was replace the power cable with a standard kettle plug I had from my PC box. You're brother got played.

Is there much of a saving importing one opposed to going in town and buying one? If something goes wrong with it you'll have no recourse with sony here either.

You not saving very much. Canadian dollars are as strong as American your only saving a few euro really when you take shipping into it and thats before you risk getting it through customs. its difficult to get american football jerseys in without paying customs not to mind getting a Ps3 through.

Just buy it here or the north at least that way you wont have issues with customs and warrenty

i would say stay clear of importing a ps3, you will have absolutely no warrenty

and even if you buy it new, playstation europe wont touch it, you would have to send it back to canada for them to repair it over there!

trust me i had heartache when i got a 40gb ps3 from gamestop in new york, got it home and it was faulty, overheating problem

luckilly gamestop paid for me to send back the unit and refunded me, i was lucky i think

bottom line, buy it in ireland for peace of mind!

    taken from wikipedia

All of Europe and most of South America, Africa and Asia, as well as Australia and New Zealand use a supply that is within 10% of 230 V, whereas Japan, North America and some parts of northern South America use a voltage between 100 and 127 V.

ps3 built for west side of the world useing 100 and 127 V

how would it work for us when we use 230 V

dont trust wiki as 100%, as its not.

a us ps3 would work over here, it has a voltage switcher in it

however as per my prev post, i wudnt advise with importing one

There is a built in universal transformer inside that can use both, as long as the plug is right.
