Nope vodafone are offering the same for €19.99.

Personally i'm going to get vodafome mi-fi for €24.99 pm, unlimited download.

No need for 3G on the ipad then :D

I'm still trying to get my head around Mifi tbh.Had never heard of it until this week:o From what I understand it works exactly the same as mobile broadband, but instead of plugging it into your computer, it just sits near it and communicates via wifi:confused: So you don't need a wifi network as such, just a laptop (or ipad etc) that is wifi enabled? Have I got this correct?

What then is the cost if you are travelling? Does the Mifi take a microsim you can buy in other countries?

What are the speeds like with vodafone?

Might be worth seeing how long is left on my O2 contract and if I can get out of it.

    Cheers

Thin of it as a wireless router - with a 3G data card in it.

Easiest explanation, it charges from mains or USB and lasts up to 4 hours, I have gotten in excess of 3MBps on the vodafone ISP APN which, when you consider unlimited download allowance for €25 a month isn't bad.

I have no land line so it suits me down to the ground.

I wouldn't plan on bringing it out much but the option is there with the uSB charging. Create a mobile hotspot you can access from your iPad, phone, laptop anywhere you can get a 3G signal!

    = Win

How exactly does mifi work on an iPad? Is there an adaptor for the iPad? Can you tether with your iPhone? Cheers

The MiFi device connects to the 3G network. The iPad connects to the MiFi using WiFi. No adapter needed. Other WiFi devices can connect to the MiFi in the same way.

You can't officially tether between iPhone and iPad. I think there are ways with jailbroken devices though.

you're not quite reading it wright red.

the mifi is a 3g modem incased in a small box like a wireless router or access point with the 3g data card inside it.

You connect to this box like you would to any wireless access point via wi-fi?

5GB on an iPad data plan for €20 VS unlimited GB on mifi for €25.

From th FAQ on this page

    • Does iPhone support tethering?

Yes. You can share the fast 3G connection on your iPhone with your Mac or PC and connect to the Internet from just about anywhere — no Wi-Fi required. Contact your carrier for details.

Is it the carrier restricts tethering? I thought tethering was just broadcasting the 3G connection over wi-fi as a hotspot?

I'm doing it right now with Joikuspot on my N97

Yes, that works with Mac and PC. But you can't tether between iPhone and iPad, officially. They pointed this out at the official launch. There is a jailbreak app which lets you use the iPhone as a MiFi, I believe.

Yes. It's just a normal WiFi connection.

Unlimited is never unlimited and Voda are being very vague with their FUP.

    Caveat Emptor imo.

I get about a week out of my mifi's battery. Once or twice I've had to recharge it mid week. I use it with a payg O2 broadband sim. 19 quid for 5GB.

I yet to use more than 500MB in a month with the iPad.

I've switched my phone from an iphone to an android and can also share it's 3G connection with the ipad using the phone as a wifi hotspot.

I have had the iPad since it was launched in the States in April. I got a Wifi iPad and bought a mifi modem from three in Newry. Unlocked it myself and used it with the iPad. Sometimes It was okay in the beginning but a few times the battery ran out while I was travelling. I just wished I had a 3G version of the iPad instead just the WiFi. Anyway I sold the WiFi iPad and bought a 3G one and sold the mifi yesterday on adverts to someone.

I think the 3G is worth it considering that you do not need to carry an extra device and also the 3G iPad has GPS which WiFi one does not have.

I would agree with you only I have no landline at home and therefore no Broadband, I'm using my N97 as a hotspot
