Tax, NCT - Car was off the road

    Hi guys,

We're putting a 98 Ford Puma back on the road that we've had in storage for the last 2.5 years. She's a 1.7 with 50k on the clock in mint condition, so we kept it after we had to buy another car with back doors to fit the baby seats in. Now that the kids are a bit older, we're getting rid of our lovely Skoda Octavia 1.8T 150bhp Auto...love it....and are putting the Puma back in to service.

So, we need to NCT it and tax it. We have the tax form signed by the guards, but do we need it NCT'd to get it taxed? Or do I need it taxed to NCT it. Which order should it be done in?

    Thanks.

I'd go with the NCT first, just be sure you have the rf100 as signed by the guards with you in the car on the way there - might as well find out if there's any major problems by running it through the NCT before spending the money on the tax.

Ah no the car is in perfect nick. It's been in a garage the whole time and my Dad would run it and take care of it.

But, do I need an NCT first to get the tax? I'm hoping to tax it first so I don't have to get a flat bed truck to bring it to the NCT centre.

you don't need it NCT'd to get it taxed. although you will need to have it insured.

Ya, they ask for an nct number on the rf100 but don't think you even need to fill that bit in, if your prefference is to tax it first then there's no reason why you couldn't do that + it'll take an age to get an nct test date.

    No they don't........

C3 Section 3 - A Certificate of roadworthiness (CRW) is required as follows:
    · Goods Vehicles, Trailers, Buses and Ambulances over 1 year old must be tested every year
    · Design Gross Vehicle Weight (DGVW) is the basis for determining vehicle classification for vehicle testing purposes
    · Goods vehicle having a DGVW of 3500 kg kilograms or lower to be tested as a Light Goods Vehicle (L G V) – C R W fee €6
    · Goods vehicle having DGVW exceeding 3500 kilograms to be tested as a Heavy Goods Vehicle (H G V) – C R W fee €13
