Lads is the weather going to play havoc on feeding stocks again this year. Said it to a few friends in June that i had a feeling that July and august would be the same as the last two/three years wet beginning th think i was right. Noticed one lad out combining last Saturday! I wonder where they thinking the same. Any of you got the second cut done yet!

Thankfully by saturday or sunday of this week I will have all my silage baled up and I recon I will be up on last year's amount. I may cut a second cut - I have the field fertilized and closed off, but if the cows need grass I'll buy extra meal to supplement it like I did last year.

I don't do hay, except for a few square bales - no more than 300 ech year. Will take haylage if I get it though - great stuff for feeding cows for a few weeks before they calve.

I replaced a few springs in the Haybob myself tonight
    Not an easy job
I was afraid to take it out of the shed in case the neighbours saw me and blame me again for breaking the weather!
    Fingers Xd for weekend
If not here comes the Mart for half my stock now that cattle are up
Is this increase in prices related to upcoming Cap issues

Its a hateful job - replacing springs. I'm slightly over stocked myself but thankfully I got a lot of silage in early June and grass is now in plentyful supply after sprinkling a bit of fertilizer. Have a good few weinlings to go at the first weinling sale in Elphin, so that will lighten the load for september and october.

how long do you leave the Haylage down for - 4-5 days? turning it a couple of times???

never actually made haylage but like the idea of it for the cows.
