Rent Supplement and Moving to Another Authority

    Hello,

Myself and my wife lived together for some years in her appartment and in last few years we had children and decided to rent a larger place and rent her apartment out, in hope of buying somewhere bigger when prices stabilise.

First 2 rental's were fine but now we find it is very slow renting this time around. There is a little more demand now but only person really serious is getting rent supplement and when I ask why she is moving from city centre to our place in Kiltipper, she says that she cannot stay in same authority areas (Dublin City) and must move to South Dublin to continue getting her supplement.

Does this mean anything to anyone? - I don't have an issue with being paid by rent supplement as I pay my taxes etc and all is legit (seems many landlords don't take it).

Anyway, does anyone know this as regards having to move authorities - considering its the HSE pay this etc? Is she telling me a fib? I am waiting on her references to check them out and told her it had to be her ex landlord or employer.

    Thanks for any help.

    Paddy

there are few different rent supplement areas around dublin and the one in the city centre is different to the one in tallaght so if she is moving then new forms will need to be signed for the new area as its a different community welfare officer that she will need to go to and the payment will need to be transferred

Thanks for the reply. I am just cagey that maybe she is trying to get away from something... just not sure.

Got number of her last landlord (I think) and social worker this evening so gonna chase them down as references.

See seems genuine but I just need to check all angles.

    Thanks again, Paddy

There are new rules regarding rent supplement for claimants in the last few months. One of them is that the claimant must be assessed (long process)for housing in the local authority in which they are claiming supplement. Before this it was any local authority.

Maybe she has only applied to South Dublin for housing in the past and wants to avoid a long delay in applying for housing in another local authority area?
