A new type of Politics

Had a little idea today, what about scraping democracy and starting a new form of politics.

The premise is that there are no elected officials or elections we just form committees and have notable people for example David McWilliams, Morgan Kelly, Michael O leary etc could belong to a business and economics section and they would hammer out ideas and pass laws.

Top Judges and barristers would likewise head up Justice department.

All the public do is nominate or dismiss members of the group. Also we could have point men in each constutiency who are there to listen to people and then they would bring it to relevant committee's for discussion.
We would also have the right to overrule a decision by majority.

It would bring and end to party politics and should have everyone striving for the best interests of the nation. Nobody could "run" the country because change will only happen by the collective group of thinkers who are deemed worthy by the public.

Go on hammer me for this.....

Micheal O'Leary would only have his self interests at heart, this works for a company like Ryan Air but it becomes far to shallow for a country. He would be taking out ads for Ireland mocking the French President and the British Prime Ministers.

I currently think that TDs constantly talk about their constituencies and yet all are afraid to ignore their electorate on constituency matters. TD's are supposed to represent all the citizens. We already have "point men in each constituency" they are called Councillors. Each TD in all of the areas should get constituency issues raised to them by Councillors when it effects national issues.

"collective group of thinkers" while such a group is good what happens when they become corrupt and self serving and change the rules?

Really the change should be made in relation to how the Taoiseach nominates his ministers. A number should be elected TDs, a number should be "thinkers" in releavant areas and a number should come from different parts of society (an education doesn't give you cop on).

Of course the legislator i.e. the elected members of the dail could over rule your "collective group of thinking ministers" when bills are going through the houses, which is what is supposed to happen only the Party Whip system prevents it.

    Laws? No thanks.

    Nope. Lawyers need a culling.

I thought we would have no elections?

No it wouldnt. the group of thinkers would forum ideological clubs and thus become de facto parties.

Poorly thought out. But at least you have the right idea to scrap democracy.

The main issue here is that it would violate the separation of powers doctrine and mean judges and barristers would have a "free hand" to do whatever they liked.

...granted, that isn't much different to what we have now. :D

I think the OP is referring to people with expertises in Justice, rather than the current set of Judges.

Start a march on Dublin and I shall be along shortly......

@OP what you have suggested sounds a lot like fascism. Mussolinis corporations sound very similar to your committees.
