Good spec car, think they get around mid 40-50mpg. Slight annual saving if you go for the 2008 model the motor tax is €447, it's €823 on the 2007 one as it's cc based, might make it easier to sell down the line.

The turbo lag on that engine is pretty poor due to the gearing. I think it was partially addressed on the Sport model which has a shorter gear ratio.

Had one brief spin driving one. Felt cramped

Have an 09. like it. not the biggest car in the world but very comfortable. have had the family over to france in it twice. thats a 13,12 and 6 year old in the back.
gearing is odd however it seems a bit better since it had an EGR valve changed under warranty. maybe it had a new map installed on the ecu but you can now use top gear below 120kmh.
averaging around 7.3L/100km according to trip comp.

Ive heard alot of reports of engine problems with them. Also as with a few other cars, they seem to have a very strong liking for new front pads with the dealers insisting on new discs each time too.

heard that too, but I think that affects the older models? Had a brief drive in one, lovely car, very comfortable..i would buy one, if i could afford it:p

AFAIK lexus (toyota) had to upgrade the software on the ECUs on a lot of those models to address some of the engine management problems (excessive fuel consumption etc etc).

That makes sense to what happened to mine, Definitely better after warranty work. way more driveable. not saving fuel but what the heck...

    I bought a 220d sport in 07 and put 140,000km on it.

Negetives- Fuel consumption was terrible approx 30-35mpg. 2 recalls. Very cramped inside. rolled alot in corners, over steered like a b*****d, poor ride comfort, not very quick, service costs, refinement

Postives- looks, standard equipment eh thats about it.

I had a 220D all day yesterday. It was a demo model withonly 3,000 on the clock.
It came fully loaded with nav, climate, cruise, phone, leather, etc, etc.
I drove from Bray, up to Belfast, over to Newcastle Co Down, back through Dublin city, and finally out to Bray to finish off. A right mixture of roads and conditions.
Although the car was comfortable enough, the engine seemed to labour and lag most of the time. It felt as if you need to be flooring it all the time just to get it to move.
100kph in 6th gear sees 1,500 rpm, but you'd have to drop to 4th or even 3rd to accellerate any way briskly.
    Fuel economy was very poor.
I would have expected more from a deisel, but my total average for the whole day was 43.8 mpg.
Overall, a nice comfortable car for the goodies that comes with it.
But if you want more performance I would suggest you opt for the petrol version; if you are looking for economy you're looking in the wrong place.

The earlier 220D's suffered from injector 5 failure (for some reason it was always injector 5?). I would hope that Lexus have cured that problem by now.

Plus tiny tiny cabin. Very cramped. Poor show by Lexus.
