No I'm not trolling, or flaming, or whatever it is the kids call it nowadays....

Simply wondering, why do people hate Twilight so much?

I recently started reading the books, haven't seen any of the movies yet, but I think the books are great!

The writing style is horrendous and the stories are tedious.

but what's wrong with that? Have you read the books? it's such a small aspect..

it isn't all bad though, to be fair..it's just the majority audience are idiots so it doesn't attract anyone else.

    True Blood > Twilight

btw Season 2 will be starting in September on TG4 for all you True Blood fans :)

It's badly written drivel with Mary Sue characterisation and Bella is a Stephanie Meyer self-insert who exists for the sole purpose of living out the Mormon author's monogamous pre-teen fantasies.

    No thanks!

Penetration of the penis is never good.

Anyway, it's the boyband of vampire films.
Teenage girls wetting themselves when some dude appears.

I hate twilight because it's preteen **** with girls creaming themselves when some airburshed idiot comes on screen.

Not exactly sure what this is all about but if your on about those films about weeping gay vampires who wear funny colored contact lenses then yes they look sh!te.
Look about as scarey as a mushroom.

Think the latest one is called Twilight Prolapse.

+1 for Breaking Bad, quality show. True Blood has moments too though I think, and I much prefer the direction Alan Ball has taken it when compared to the original plot of the books (another thread altogether). However jury is still out on Season Three.

Watched the entire series in just under a month! Quality show. Although the writing got a bit poor after Aaron left.

True but at least still much better than a lot of stuff that was on at the same time and it managed to get to a firm close all lose ends conclusion.

I'd recommend it to anyone that like to have their brain in gear when watching something. :)

    Why don't I like Twilight?
    1) I'm literate. This means I can pick up any book I like and read it. Thereby I don't have to read a book where "said" is replaced by "breathed". Also the books have NO SUBSTANCE. So far, four books, one novella and another promised book all based on one love story? Talk about dragging it out!

    2) Its blatantly aimed at what preteen girls want. For proof of this, watch the films esp the last one. Ahhh I wonder why Taylor Lautner/that guy who looks like an alpaca never has his shirt on?? Surely he's just too warm!

    3) When Bram Stoker wrote Dracula, Im pretty sure he never thought that vampires would one day SPARKLE, not go near humans (aren't all meat-eaters vampires then?) and generally be ponces. There.

And not to aim this at you personally, but by god, mentioning you don't like Twilight to a fan = CERTAIN DEATH!!!

Indeed. Was a fantastic show, writing, cast were perfect! Think i might have to pull out the boxset now!

I read the first book and watched the first film to see what all the fuss was about. The book is derivative, twee, and very poorly written; the screen version does a good job in capturing this essence. Most people dislike the Twilight franchise (to call it a saga is like describing Spot the Dog as an epic) because it is so ubiquitous, because of its rabid, overly protective fanbase, and because there are innumerable books out there that deserve more success.

I've been told: "Oh, don't mind the first book, it gets sooo much better after that!"

**** off. I'm not falling for that one again.

It teaches highly impressionable preteens that if your boyfriend ever loses control and hurts you, it's YOUR FAULT. It teaches them that they'll only ever fulfil themselves by getting married. It shamelessly harnesses the confusion that puberty produces and shovels money by doing so. It teaches them that your identity and personality have to be completely subsumed by your boyfriend's. It teaches them that an aggressive control freak who watches someone sleep is being "romantic" rather than "unhinged". It's a thinly-veiled attempt to terrorise teenagers into abstinence and marriage. And it's being targeted at people who are too young to see what's being done.

I really have to buy my little sister the Buffy boxset before it's too late.

    Have the presidential one myself.
Have watched it twice now straight thru since I bought it.

I'm still looking for a good replacement to it - The Wire and The Shield came close for a while.
