    Hi guys,

Basically im going getting a whole new tv, sound system, blu ray player the lot and what I want to do is this........

I have tv, broadband and phone with UPC but I want to switch to Sky for the better HD channels.

So what I want to know is can I cancel the tv only with upc but keep the broadband and phone with them and switch to sky for just the TV????

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!:)

    Thanks!

You can do it but they charge you a broadband standalone charge of about €8.

Yes you can. Without the TV they will add €7.50 to your monthly bill as a broadband standalone charge. Not sure if having the phone with them cancels this out.

Thanks for your fast response guys,

So at the moment i have 15mb with them costing me €32 a month so IF I leave them for sky the broadband charge would go upto €40 a monthy correct??

Also just wondering with sky needing a telephone to come into the house can they use the UPC telephone line or whats the story???

    Thanks!!:)

Phoneline is to ensure that the Sky box is in your house, and not the neighbours.

As far as I know, no. Sky box rings home once in a while. Seems you can get Sky without phoneline, but that costs extra, I think.

Bear in mind as well that unless your contract is up they will charge you something like €100 to break the contract in order to drop the TV, even if you want to keep the broadband. I tried this last week...

can't see how the could justfy the stand alone charge, if the customer is still getting 2 services from them,...BB & phone,...although UPC have a knack of interpreting their T&C's in a way that suits them,...if they do impose the charge I would drop the phone & sign up with blueface,...€149 per year for all your calls to UK & Ireland,...not mobiles.....you can disconnect the phone line after your 1st years contract with sky.

Drop multi-room after a year and use 2nd box for FTA channels. You actually get MORE BBC & ITV...

Fat lot of good that is tho if you want to use your second Sky box for watching Sky Sports or non-FTA channels... ;)

    Hi Dark Shadow,

Did you get anywhere with this?
I am planning on the exact same thing. Moving to Sky for TV but keeping UPC BB and phone.
I dont like the sound of another €8 per month though as Sky is more expensive anyway.

I will ring UPC Monday and post back here.

    Wavey.

I will need multi-room. Will be putting 3 other tv's on it!

the mother moved to sky last june and was paying 7.50 a month extra for 1 multi-room. this has now gone up to 15 euro a month for 1 extra multi room.

3 multi rooms after a year equals 45 euro a month on top of your normal subscription. could work out a lot more expensive than you think for an extra few HD channels which you won't watch as often as you think you will.

at least with UPC you can syphen off standard co-ax to all the rooms for free which is usually good enough for basic 17 channels.
