So now we have Dermot Ahern publishing a bill to allow law abiding citizens to beat the bejaysus out of any trespassers, including force that may cause death in 'certain circumstances' http://www.irishtimes.com/newspaper/breaking/2010/0719/breaking35.html

What would you do if you woke to the sounds of thievery in your abode? Do you already keep a slash-hook/baseball bat/hurley at the ready by the bed for such incidences?

Personally we keep a German Shepherd in the house - that didn't stop them nicking me trailer last week though! B*stards!!

and was your german shepherd gonna let himself out of the house to catch them nicking your trailer?

I'd have a quagmire style trap waiting. He'd wake up in a dark alley off O'connell street the next morning confused, with a sore hole.

As the comments therein testify who knew what that thread was about?

I don't have any weapons nearby (for emergencies) but am capable of self defense, and will use anything withing reach.. glass, usb connector, screwdriver, guitar string, bedpost, floor, etc.

I will keep fighting them off until they are no longer a threat to me or my family.
The extent of their injuries will depend on how determined they are to remain in my house trying to rob me, among other things.

God help anyone who breaks into my house, they are risking serious injury.

i leave a bick on the floor inside the door, they break in, trip, fall over, i laugh this breaks the tension , banter will soon ensue thus negating the need for violence
