    Hi folks,

    I am 20 years old, single and living at home with parents at the moment and had been receiving €70 JSA as I was out of work.

    Since May I am on a full time Fás course from Mon - Fri until December on which I am receiving a training allowance of €216 p/w.

    Now I wish to move out and get my own place when I can afford to receiving €216 and hopefully apply for rent allowance.

    First question: Since I am on a Fás course and not claiming JSA at the moment, am I eligible for Rent Allowance? And also, how long will it take before it comes through?

    Now since my course will end in December and chances are I will have to resort back to signing on until I can secure work this leads to my Second question: does anybody have any idea how much JSA I will receive? Taking into account I am no longer living at home and am financially independant of my parents.

    Any info would be greatly appreciated as I want to have an idea to plan ahead before I sign on a lease for a place and or make some decisions regarding my current course.

    Many thanks, :o

    ]First question:Since I am on a Fás course and not claiming JSA at the moment, am I eligible for Rent Allowance? [/I] You may get Rent Supplement if you have been living for 6 months (183 days) out of the last 12 months in one, or a combination, of the following:

    * Accommodation for homeless people
    * Private rented accommodation. You must be able to show that you could afford the rent at the beginning of your tenancy and that you could have continued to pay rent but are unable to do so because of a change in your circumstances which occurred after you started renting.
    * An institution, for example, a hospital, care home or place of detention

    Or

    * Be assessed in the last 12 months by a local authority as being eligible for and in need of social housing.
