    Hi,
Does anyone know if Ferry companies will allow you to take full gerry cans of diesel on board? or will they make us leave them behind?

well firstly they dont search cars so they wont know if you have one

I did a quick google and got the following from brittany ferries
No dangerous goods or firearms may be brought on board without our written permission. Dangerous goods must be declared at the time of booking and on arrival at the port and can only be transported in a vehicle. No dangerous goods or firearms may be carried by a foot-passenger. If in doubt as to whether items qualify as dangerous goods, please ask us before travel or boarding may be refused. If you are carrying these items with our permission please report to the Duty Manager at check in. The transport of petrol cans is specifically forbidden. A maximum of 3 x 15kg gas cylinders may be carried, the cylinders must be switched off during the voyage.

I suggest you read the terms and conditions on your ticket

BTW, unless you have, ahem, access, to particularly cheap diesel over here; why would you not buy over there? Go to the Super Us of Hyper U's which have stations alongside/attached and the diesel's better value that here.

I filled up at €109.9 p/litre two weeks ago for the return skite from hols. I got 1.16 point something in France 3 weeks prior.

Pump prices fluctuate daily over there, seems to be much more closely linked to changes in p/barrel costs to me - perhaps someone in the know an enliughten us on that, maybe I'm wrong.

    Hi guys,
Thanks for the replies, I'm actually going on a charity run to mongolia with 4 other people. We've been kindly donated a full fill of diesel, but we've decided not to risk filling the gerry cans in case they take them off us and then we're stuck with no gerry cans and out 100L of diesel too. We've been told that we cant bring the fuel on board, so we're not gonna risk it just in case they search us, which is very likely.

Now that's one hell of a roadtrip! Jealousy doesn't cover it. Pity about the freebie, but think you're right to err on safe side. Have you tried contacting the ferry company's PR people to see if somehow an exception can be made/the jerry cans stored in some sort of secure area (not sure if such an area exists...) away from the car-decks? Bit of a clutching at straws effort perhaps, unless you have a well-publicised blog/website set-up they could leverage some good press from...

    All the best with it.
