Hi, I'm starting the pgde in Trinity. Does anyone know the dates we will get a holiday around October/November? I'm trying to find out if I will be able to attend a friend's wedding abroad if the Trinity week off is the same as the school mid-term on October the 25th. I can't get an answer at the office they must be on holidays there. Thanks!

Hey, i am starting there in september also. From what i have read from the previous year's handbook is that the two do not coincide. That is you usually have the mid-term around halloween and in last year's handbook it says that their 'reading week' - more like mid-term - is: 9-13 November 2009 Reading Week: no lectures.

I know, it's not handy and from what I hear a week off is exactly what would be nice!

you can get the handbook here:

    http://www.tcd.ie/Education/courses/PDE%20CourseHandbook%202009-2010.pdf

I received a letter from the college a while back, which i presume everyone did and they said that it (the handbook) won't change that much! :)

Hope it was some help for you. What subject will you be taking?

    Regards,

    S.

Others may disagree here, but - would it be so terrible to miss lectures for a few days?

I mean, missing TP is a big deal so definitely don't go during school time. But, if the school on midterm then you can't be on TP, so presumably the only thing you could miss is lectures.:pac:

I'm doing French. Have geography too but just doing the French for the dip.(hope I might be allowed sit in on some geog lectures just to get some resources or tips for teaching the subject)
I think it would be OK to miss some lectures. I would definitely prefer to skip lectures than skip TP.

Yeah, I presume that it would be ok to miss some lectures. I'm sure someone who was at them could give you notes etc... However TP, I do not think you could miss, unless you arrange it with the school. I know I will be missing TP on one of the days in November for my graduation, so I guess there are ways around it? :)

I did the Dip in Trinity the year before last.

There were people who regularly missed lectures and did fine in exams/assignments. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Also, depending on the school, in my experience they didn't mind if you need to get a day or so off during term so long as you had arranged cover with the supervising teacher.
