What are you working on at the moment?

So what particular projects are you working on at the moment? And what way do you approach your projects? Do you work on an ad hoc basis or more of a structured approach with an end date in sight (I suppose I'm referring to the non-professionals here)?

I have two albums on the go at present. I do think in "albums", although recently I've been indulging in one-off songs, just for a diversion when I hit a block or just to do something else after months of doing the one thing. Albums give me good structure, because I know I have 10 - 12 songs or so of a certain theme, and I can either figure it out as I go along or have a plan at the start and either stick to it or not!

Sometimes I'll structure the album as I go along, other times all the songs will be pre-written, with just the actual recording and performance to do. And in the former case its hard to know when to stop, as I may have 10 songs and think "done" when all of a sudden a brilliant song comes along and I have to rethink it all!

The first album I'm currently working on is called "Signals" and the theme relates to the natural surroundings of where I live and the memories / feelings associated with that area. Musically it is slow, acoustic / piano based but with lots of effects and big sweeping musical passages, almost orchestral, to give it a really big, epic flavour. Its a great one to work on, as you can have a basic backing track and then blast tonnes of guitar effects and delays and get a real "wall of sound" thing going on. I've one track left to record and it'll be done, 10 songs in all.

Second album is called "Mono"; totally different approach as I set myself the challenge of recording in mono. I posted a few of the tracks here a while back and got some good feedback, so that gave me the encouragement to keep going. This is more rock n roll, somewhat early-60s referencing, and a REAL challenge as there is no stereo panning allowed (it is mono after all!) so you really have to think about where things sit in the mix. I've about 2 songs left to write / record, and then it'll be done. I reckon one will be a blues track of sorts, and the other will be a kind of anthemic album closer.

    What are your current projects?

Hey man, thanks for coming back! I really liked that Mono stuff!

    My projects are:

My band (you know the one)
My other song writing for an un-named project

So, not a lot, but the band is pretty time intensive!

    Hope you post more stuff!

finishing mixes for the riot tapes (who's guitarist is possibly a gayist.. sorry chris :D)

halfway thru producing/recording/mixing a full album for a dublin girl band. very lush r'n'b/electro/pop crossover. talented girls!

and getting ready for the final acoustics to be put into place in the control room and live room in my new place of work (all to be revealed soon... ish)

    busy busy busy :-)

finished and released the last (5th) album in April and now that my back injury allows it have been doing improv performances of the material (field recording based ambient electronic) at various galleries and festivals and allowing the music to slowly evolve into something that's quite different to the original and last week released a mid year live mix of where it's at now. The plan is to do the same at the end of the year just for the fun of seeing how the music evolves over an extended period. After that, it's back writing/recording again because 2011 is festival touring time and maybe a trip back home to Oz for some more field recording if I can line up a date or two to help offset the flight costs.

Finished recording some tracks for a few friends. The project was supposed to result in an LP but the quality is more indicative of a demo in the strictest sense of the word...they had big dreams, but alas, poor timing!

I'm happy to be winding this up as it was driving me crazy. I've decided to focus more on my guitar playing for next month or two and then maybe record a concept album with my brother comprising folk material (mostly sea shantys). Also liking the idea of some surf instrumentals. Whatever the case, the next recording I do will be done on my own terms.

Finished a 12" EP for Pogo/Bodytonic. Got a manager (thank fcuk).
Doing a white label anonymous 12 at the moment. And trying to work out a live set that uses a bit more than ableton and controllers.

All in all, I'm doing feck all.

cant give too much away just yet, only to say there's a member from an early line-up and a few others from various 90's indie bands. quite a few releases between them. the sound is a lovely mix of the roses/ride/elbow.

i'll post a short clip in a bit.

this is the a-side of the first single. quite up beat and poppy. the b-side is a lot darker, more ride in their going blank again era.

I had to put a clip up on your tube to let the fans know it is actually happening, but its taking so long that some songs on the CD we dont even do live anymore :( then off to richard in limerick for mastering :D

Working on the debut single for a great Dublin band called Cloud Castle Lake. It has been a challenge in the best sense of the word. Hoping to have it out on 7" before the end of the year anyway.

Writing bits and bobs, nothing too concentrated right now. Got some new Market Force stuff on the go and I'm considering my options about doing some gigs for that too. Started a punk band for a laugh but its actually gotten kind of serious, doesn't really have a name yet. Doing some twee kind of pop stuff in my spare time, just because it's fun.

Learning the drums, kind of. Don't have the time to put in proper practice right now. Been doing a little location/live recording for State.ie, with the Intervention videos. Which has been an incredible learning experience, working with professionals is always good.

    Right now I'm:
-Finishing off an album's worth of mixes for an Alt Rock/Experimental band from Limerick.
-Finishing tracking/ starting mixing a 2 track promo for a Sludge/Doom metal band from Cork
-Middle of tracking a 4 track E.P for a Limerick Death metal band.
-Start tracking an album tomorrow for a Cork grind band.

Also finishing tracking/mixing my own bands 5 track thing, been working on it for about a year now on and off, really need to get it finished so we can start the next one!

heres one of my recent productions performed live by "underground" - co written, produced, recorded and mixed by myself.

maybe a little bit pop for tastes on here but good music is good music in my book.. no matter what style its delivered.

Working on the debut single for a great Dublin band called Cloud Castle Lake.

Ooh, I'm in the NUIM guitar orchestra with Brendan! Can't wait to hear this when it's done!

Me and the bassist in my band are mixing our first round of demo recordings by the seat of our pants. Not really a clue what we're doing, other than a rough idea of how to get things to sound the way we think they should sound... Lots of consulting Sound On Sound :p

Ah really?! Deadly, I'm in Maynooth myself. It'll be a good one alright, he's a wonderful guitar player. A very talented group of lads.
