should dublin be very worried in drawing louth? IMO louth will be out for scalps and considdering how well they played against meath and how poorly dublin played against meath are dublin going to be spanked round the pitch in said match.

No and No. Dublin will win by 5 points +.
The big occasion got to some of the Louth players against Meath with players like Brian White who had been outstanding previously looking nervous it'll be the same on Saturday against a team that we traditionally never beat. I'd also be concerned about the mindset of the players after the way in which they lost against Meath

Dicky, I think you are probably 2 weeks to late to beat the Dubs. I thought there was a significant improvement in the Dubs display on Saturday. If Louth are to have a chance they will have to mark B Brogan out of the game.

I think Dublin will win with a few points to spare. I dont know if it was just me but you sense a change in the Dublin fans at the end of the match, we were more upbeat about the team.

Dublin for me. They have improved, while Louth must surely be still upset by what happened in Leinster Final.

No thanks, it's more fun seeing Meath being hated for what happened in the Leinster final ;)

I see Dublin taking this one, not by much though. Still a bit too shaky in places to take Louth to the cleaners in any way shape or form, but enough there to win the game if they perform.

Wasn't just you. You could definitely sense the optimism. While the flaws were there, the evidence of the team actually working as a team for longer periods was the most pleasing aspect and I think that helped lift the mood and optimism of Dubs fans. Some pride has been restored at least.

I would love to see Louth win with a really controversial goal...would THEY grant Dublin a replay? :)

It's supposed to be neutral venues for this round.

But the only place you could have that double header would be Croke Park. Where elsd would you play it?

Doesn't matter what it's supposed to be. The crowds have been poor this year and any chance to stick the Dubs in Croker, the GAA are going to grab.

The official line is that Croke Park is not Dublins home stadium.
Its technically correct as Parnell Park is, but I think it should be outside Dublin altogether in the interest of fairness.

    My point exactly.

The match will be played in Croker on Saturday evening, there's no other feasible explanation for it plus Louth would love another game in Croker!

Yes but I'm sure Louth could object to playing it there. They're entitled to a neutral venue. And yes I know people say that Parnell Park is strictly Dublin's home ground, but to be honest I think that applies to the hurlers more than the footballers. Dublin footballers play almost all of their championship games in Croke Park, bar the odd qualifier down the country.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 535 ✭✭✭hisholinessnb

doesnt need to be a double header, both counties would struggle to fill Navan never mind Croke Park. Forget the double header idea and play it there.

Croke park is not Dublins home ground technically however they do play almost all their summer games there so it cant be called neutral either.

There is no point in playing in parnell when on some occasions the dubs can fill croke park.

Nobody suggested it should be played in Parnell park. It should be played in a neutral venue.

No but people are saying that croker is home for the dubs which its not. Louth can't object as its the national stadium.

of course its going to be in croke park. i'd put my house on it being kildare v monaghan at 2 and dublin v louth at 4... with a 10 minute delay a distinct possibility - it is the dubs after all.

the only thing that could stop these games being in dublin is the hurling. with the weather we're having, will it be possible to play 2 hurling games in croker on sunday after having 2 football games there on saturday... they could of course be in thurles and/or portlaoise anyway.

You are wrong because TV3 will broadcast the Dublin game in their favourite time of 5pm. So Kildare match at 3 and the dubs at 5 and by the way there was a 10 minute delay to the munster final but it hardly got a mention.

Wrong again both of you. TV3's Saturday night slot starts at 6.30pm so the Dubs match could be at 7pm!

No because every time TV3 have had a qualifier on a Saturday they have put it on at 5pm because it is their favourite time (only exception Dub v Tipp because RTE were broadcasting 2 games at 2 and 4)

That's pretty much the point I was making. Saying it's not Dublin's home ground is like trying to get away with murder on a technicality. The fact is that Croke Park is in Dublin, and they play almost all of their championship games there, and the odd league match aswell. So it's hardly neutral. Playing it in Navan would be fairer to Louth, and as Pairc Tailteann holds upwards of 25,000 that capacity would be enough based on the last two weeekends.

Its not officially Dublins home ground, everyone knows that whether they admit it or not.
BUT, its also a fact that Dublin play almost all their championship games there and therefore have an advantage playing there.
So unless the GAA are going to draw huge numbers for the game, which they won't, theres no reason not to play the game outside of Dublin.
Theres plenty of stadiums around that can take the numbers Dublin are currently drawing in.

Doubt if Louth would want to play the match in Meath! I'd say they would prefer croker after puttin in a good performance there the last day. Or is there a decent ground in Dundalk/Drogheda?

Louth had about 20,000 at the last match and Dublin would also have about 20,000 (going on recent figures) so I'd say it will be Croker.

I'm a Dub living in Louth so I personally can't wait for it

But it is neutral and Drogheda and Dundalk are in Louth!!! Anyway Dublin's style of play this year is more suited to a tighter stadium than it is for Croke Park.

Drogheda Park. I think the capacity is under 10,000 (open to correction) so nowhere near the required capacity.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,839 ✭✭✭doncarlos

Makes sense to have it in Croker from a Louth perspective as Dublin is far easier for fans to get to. Tons of public transport and only 45minutes up the motorway (if you leave early ;)).

Pressure will all be on Dublin

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,929 ✭✭✭raven136

    louth bring 15-20k
    Dubs bring 20-25k
    Kildare brong10-12k
    Monaghan brng 5-10k

Surely with the small crowds around this summer,a big pay day for croker means that a double header is the best move.

Also the cheaper the games the bigger the crowds this year.In newbridge we had a near sell outs for the antrim and leitrim games and they were only a tenner in.Its expensive for families etc if your team has already played 2 or 3 games in the qualifiers.

Charge 15 euro on saturday and its a sell out no bother

It may well be that Louth will be happy enough to play In Croke Park. But if that's the case they'd be foolish imo. If this game is played in Croke Park Dublin will win it, of that I have very little doubt. Outside of Croker (e.g Navan) I'd give Louth a decent chance.

It doesnt matter what Louth object to, they will not be heard. The GAA and their inability to adopt the views of both parties will ultimately win out as it always does, so fix the venue we will turn up no matter where and may the best team win.

Didn't realise that the 'moral righteousness' was confined to 'Dublin media', considering much of the coverage of the Louth incident was in the national press. Regardless, I doubt something of a similar nature will occur again so it's an irrelevant discussion really.

Louth are 100/1 for the All Ireland therfore I assume Dublin will star long odds on.
