    Ive recentley bought a second hand brno .22lr. Should I clean this rifle after every use and should it be zeroed in when clean. Im learning every time I use it as its my first rifle but Im just wondering what ye would say is the maximum range of a .22lr. Im uses fiochi high velocity bullets. Thanks:)

    I own a Brno.22lr and I find it does not make that much difference if you clean the gun before you tune it or not. I do find that high velocity rounds are less accurate than standard ones.

    I would typically clean my .22 if I have been shooting more than 10-20 subs or if it got damp/wet/dirty in the field (I like the smell of gun oil :D). I've tried the high velocity rounds, but find them less accurate as well :cool:

    How to clean a .22lr is something that nearly falls into the category of religious debate - one school of thought says never clean it at all, another says clean after every match.
    Personally, I cleaned mine every thousand shots or after every competition, whichever came first. Haven't shot it as often of late, so it's not been cleaned much either, just cleaned for storage and stored.

    i have a cz .22lr and i find it very accurate. i'v shot bunny's out to 140y. and i'v plinked out to 200y with it. i use winchaster subs all the time and they are very consistent.
    you dont need to be to particular when it comes to cleaning a .22lr. i'd say i clean it once for every 4 times i clean my center fire rifles.
    or if i feel like it needs a clean or i got caught out in the rain.
    cleaning for my .22lr includes brass brush once or twice. then nylon brush in and out with a cleaning fluid on it. then leave it for a while for the fluid to do its job. then a patch with gun oil on it to clean out the cleaning fluid. then a couple of dry patches and your done..
    wipe off any excess oil with a nice cloth , that spreads the oil over the outside of the rifle and protects it. you are wiping off the oil but it still leaves a very small amount not very much but enough to protect it.:D

    Big Fella,
    Take 5 minutes, it won't hurt. A brush, some dry swabs, and a few wet ones...

    Take a cleaning kit to the range, bog, or whatever with you and clean it there.

    I clean them all, every time after a shoot.

    Boresnake with a little oil once in a while or when you're going to store it for a while. Always work from chamber to crown and not the other way around.

    Any reason?

    (a) it doesn't shove the crap in the barrel back into the chamber where there are more nooks and crannies to get stuck in (or even into the trigger mechanism in some cases);
    (b) it doesn't risk the cleaning rod grinding on the edge of the crown and damaging it. With a boresnake you have a similar problem so you have to watch that you don't pull the cable against the edge of the crown there as well, but with the cleaning rod you can use a bore guide to safeguard the chamber as well.

    Stock on the ground, left hand holding the end of the barrel and right hand vertical pull...that's the way I do it..shotgun and rifle both
