This is a very trivial question but it has happened today in my club and i am just looking for opinions.
The club organised a sports/family day for today and is also classed as a fundraiser for the club. For the sports day we had bouncy castles, kids games, different stalls etc but we also organised a 5 a side soccer tournament.our own lads (senior hurler players) organised it and did out 3 separate pitches.this was all done yesterday(saturday).this morning our field manager turns up,seen the fields for the soccer and says the soccer cant go ahead because it is against the rules.alot of planning went in to this so those of the committee present voted soccer goes ahead so field manager resigns
Does rule 42 cover this.does anyone know where i can find out for sure, maybe email someone.how do you feel about the managers or committee members behaviour.it was not a soccer club we let in just our own lads doin a bit of fundraising

Lads Lads Lads - it's all about branding.

It's a game of old fashioned Gaelic football where players are being encouraged to develop their skills - so no touching the ball with hands.

    "Ground-Gaelic" is the name.

I'd be sure enough that rule 42 overturning only applied to Croke Park. It says it in the official guide part 1
All property including grounds, Club Houses, Halls,
Dressing Rooms and Handball Alleys owned or
controlled by units of the Association shall be used
only for the purpose of or in connection with the
playing of the Games controlled by the Association,
and for such other purposes not in conflict with
the Aims and Objects of the Association, that may
be sanctioned from time to time by the Central
    Council.
    (b) Grounds controlled by Association units shall not
be used or permitted to be used, for Horse Racing,
Greyhound Racing, or for Field Games others than
    those sanctioned by Central Council.

I don't think any form of soccer is acceptable on GAA grounds from those rules, even though it was only a bit of fundraising, it was organised as soccer. Technically, the field manager was right, and the committee members were in the wrong. Why was it soccer that the GAA lads organised, why not football or hurling five a side?

the main field was divided in to 4 pitches for the juveniles.football and hurling/camogie was played on these.that left the top bank that isnt really used and is very small so they divided it up in to small soccer pitches.ya'd never play gaelic sports on it and to be honest there was a bit of space left on the main field and they had a pitch on that too.unfortunately with most of the lads here as soccer was more successful this year soccer is their prominent sport and as a gaa only person this is disappointing but there is no point pulling against the lads as its the gaa that will suffer.

Technically then the club could be in trouble in more ways than one as we also have a hall in use 5 days a week.took up with indoor soccer, basketball, badminton, gymnastics and aerobics.if the club was to stop this it would be financially ruined.it takes in about €4000 annually from the gymnastics alone

I read this weekend in the Sunday Indo that Douglas Hyde, the President of Ireland got banned by the GAA for attending a soccer game back in 1938.

Unreal attitude that still exists clearly.

And the GAA wonder why they are disliked by so many ?
