..or get to the airport early and select them on the self check-in machine.

Is that why there is a charge on the seat's at the moment and the reason theyl be free 48hrs before is because the "Best" ones are gone etc..!!

To be honest, they are NOT all the same! Especially if you are tall!!
As soon as I get on the plane I go straight for the exit seats.

And when you get there, what do you say to the people already sitting in them who reserved them in advance?

Not on Aer Lingus you don't. Or any other airline that assigns seats

Obviously don't do it on planes with assigned seating. In that case I try and reserve online.

The mad dash for the exit seats is only on the free for all Ryanair type airlines.

Which isn't relevant at all to a thread about aer lingus check in ;)

Booked flights with Aer Lingus last week and couldn't check in until 30 hours before the flight

You can select your seats without checking in.

Checkin is 30 hrs in advance and you cannot select the 'good' seats free (exit, first 8-ish rows).

You do not have to wait until check in to select your seat, you can do it as soon as you buy the flight.

There's a charge for that on aer lingus

€5 for "normal" seats, €10 for first 5/6 rows, €15 for exit seats

It's optional. I never pay for seats on an Aer Lingus flight, but that's a personal choice.

    Hi

You cannot check in until 30 hrs before the flight ( 24 to/from USA )

You cannot select the exit seats , nor ( usually ) the front 6-10 rows on the front.

However you can often select these on the self service at the airport ( or you used to be able to )

On the A320 the Exit seats are ( usually ) rows 12/13 ( and row 1 which is not that comfortable ) . On the A321 , I can't recall the exit seat numbers , I think row 10 and row 22 ( could be wrong )

IF you do go for an exit seat on EI A320 , I would suggest row 13 , row 12 isn't great because it does not recline but 11 does , for that reason 13 is better ( no one can recline into you .. god I hate people who recline on short journeys :) )

There are 1 or 2 A320's where the row numbers are different , that's because the aircraft were destined for a different airline ( Iberia I think ) , and they have different galley layouts , and I think they missed row 13 out ( some airlines are a little funny about 13 )

As a regular EI flyer I have no problem selecting the exit rows when I need them. I select my seat when I book the flight.
