    Hi ,

I have rooted desire with froyo on it. I thought when i flashed it, it would get rid of the stupid o2 startup. Is there any easy way to get rid of it with out bricking my phone. I have googled it and read some stuff about gold cards but its over my head :) Feckin o2 nd there stupid branding. I suppose it could be worse it could be meteor with a big orange screen

Meteor have zero branding on their desires, they are also unlocked(bill pay ones are anyway, don't know about prepay)

O2 on the other hand, they suck balls .

Yh i really thought rooting would get rid of it. As annoying as it is ill probably leave it. Dont want to brick my phone over a few bubbles :)

Isn't it just the boot-up animation? That's easily changed if you're rooted, as far as I know.

Any of ye with o2 branded desires that have rooted, is your software number (settings, about phone, software information) is still 1.20.207.3?

    It is indeed.

This is mine (after re-imaging to Froyo and applying the radio update):
    Android Version: 2.2
    Baseband: 32.42.00.32U_5.09.00.08
    Kernel: 2.6.32.15
    Software number: 2.06.32.1

    Still the infernal bubbles. :)

Found a guide here to changing the boot-up animation. Link

    Interesting.

I thought (from my googling) that the 1.20.207.3 was the o2 software with the bubbles and that debranding would remove said bubbles.

Obviously with your 2.06.32.1 it maintains the bubbles from elsewhere.

My main motivation for removing the "o2" software version is the potential delay of updates that would have to go through o2 after HTC release the stock version.

On the + side, the 1.20.207.3 seems to be the same as the UK.

    I done this:

    1. Download "Root Explorer" from the android market.
    2. Copy the bootanimation.zip to the root of your sdcard,
    3. Using root explorer copy the bootanimation.zip to /data/local

feckin bubbles are stil there though

I just used this video to change it on an unrooted o2 desire

Altho the o2 logo is still there when it first turns on, the bubbles have changed. Anyone got any ideas on how to remove the original image when you first boot up?

You rooted your phone the old way hence you got rid of the branding. Lucky you :(

Did the one click root over the weekend and still have the bubbles. I ll have to give some of these methods a bash.

I got rid of the O2 start screen, yay :D While unrevoked3 is class, the O2 screen was bugging the bejeazis out of me. Here's how if anybody is interested:

-Create a goldcard with this app - couldn't be simpler
    -Download this zip file
-Move the zip file to the root of your SD card and rename it to something shorter e.g. PB99IMG.zip (i don't think renaming makes any difference, it's just neater)
-Power on your Desire while holding the Volume Down button. This should take a bit longer than you're used to, it will check the zip file and ask if you want to apply it, say yes -> this will flash an original unbranded HTC stock rom and effectively unroot your phone - delete the zip file from your SD card once it's rebooted
-Run unrevoked3, follow the instructions step by step and you now have a rooted unbranded Desire :D

This process is possibly the simplest way to root and unbrand for those people who may be nervous of their technological ability - no messing around with ADB or RUUs. All in all it takes about 10 minutes in total, hope that helps

Put in your Meteor sim and press menu, settings, about phone, system software, check for updates and check what happens

oh ya i have tried that. no joy !! the fact that i got it unlocked- is that just sim unlocking or do i have, in effect an unbranded device> its really annoying me now cause i want to get the new 2.2 but im half afraid of rooting it in case it messes up my stuff or voids warranty.
