Just wondering if anyone is teaching BJJ on a regular basis to kids in the 5-10 age group? Friend of mine has a 5 year old interested in getting regular training.

SBG in Walkinstown has kids classes 3 times a week taught by Owen Roddy and Myself. We've had many kids around that age. Tell your friend to come down :D

    Thanks Karl.

Walkinstown is just too far though, based North Side of Dublin county. Looking for somewhere nearer.

Maybe get onto barry and see what age group of children he teaches as i know he used to teach kids that age in Ko Martial Arts, but im not sure if he still does teach that age group in informed performance

Judo might be more accessible at that age to be honest, if your north of Dublin there is Lusk judo club which is held in high esteem, swords have a judo club too with small kids in it, i dont train kids till 10+ and believe a lot of other clubs have similar policy..

Judo as you know would be great as a starter for if they intend to move into BJJ anyway, 2 sides to the same coin etc,.....

Ah I see,no problem. Well as Dan said check out Barry Oglesby's place, they're great people with a great club so it'd be good if they did teach children that young.

I'm not going to get into a BJJ Vs Judo argument because at that age thats not what is important, teaching children respect and giving them physical wellbeing goes much further than the martial art. A BJJ class with a good instructor will be beneficial no matter what.

There's no argument anywhere-simply Judo caters for kids and BJJ rarely does, thats all-if BJJ is not available Judo is an alternative..

No I didnt mean you were starting one, just that I'm not going to start one...being the fanboy that I am:p. Yes you're probably right that Judo caters for kids more than BJJ,but I just feel that it is because Judo is more well known. But Yes you're right that if BJJ Isnt available than Judo is probably the best alternative.

Just wondering,How come you dont teach younger kids?
