Thinking about picking up something small, 5w for example just for jamming. Have a pocket pod so I am not really in need of anything with FX on board, just a reasonable speaker I guess.

    Any suggestions? Cheaper the better

    Micro Cube.

It's actually been a while since i've seen the good ould micro cube mentioned around these parts. What's the world coming to!?

The Microcube is great but the lack of low end is harsh on my ears when I try to play it these days.

I'm kinda interested in the RX model, but don't have the cash to throw on something I'd probably only use for busking.

There is a lovely little Peavey 5W valve amp in XMusic:

That's very interesting alright! Don't be fooled by the 5 watt though, it will still be very loud. I've got a 5 watt fender champ 600 and it really is very loud when you push the volume up to 70/80% of the way.

You should try the Blackstar HT-5. I have one and it's an excellent amp. I used it for a recent session with an acoustic kit and it held its own! For 5 watter thats not bad.

Harley Benton GA5 - 5watt valve amp, 98euro on thomann

No experience of it myself, but heard good things about - pretty sure it's just a rebadged and slightly cheaper version of the epiphone valve junior.

You could always get an amp with an attenuator like the Vox AD30VT. That way you get a low output amp for practice and a higher output amp for back up or whatever. They're fairly cheap these days too especially if you can get one second-hand.

If you have a pocket pod would you not just throw it into a pair of Computer speakers?

They're cheap and it'll sound great in stereo.

Yeah, i do that sometimes. Sounds good.

Another option is the classic Pignose. You'd need to lower the Pod's output below headphone level to avoid overdriving the Pignose's input.

Cheap computer speakers will be **** with a modeler generally. You need a pair of decent ones otherwise headphones will sound better; or the FX Return of an amp with the Cab sim turned off.

    - my microcube is hella bassy. like, so bassy it rattles. maybe it's my pickups?

It has a 5" speaker, it'd be pretty hard for it to be hella bassy. If it's rattling it's not due to the intense level of bass.

you're contradicting yourself. you just said you don't like it for lack of low end, now you're agreeing with me when i say it's very bassy? low end = bass, no?

i meant rattling as in that buzzy hum you associate with subwoofers. due to the bass.

    Were did I say that?

I've heard Microcubes plenty, they lack low end, as you'd expect from a guitar amp with a tiny speaker. The DA5 isn't any better despite the larger one.

sorry mate, misread your post as "it'd be hard for it to not be hella bassy". :)

either way, i know what i hear. bass. plenty of it.

No offense, but you've probably never had a 12" speaker or a pair of speakers/monitors with a Subwoofer.

none taken but you are wrong. i have a tube amp with a 12" speaker (a blues jr., so not exactly the hallmark of bass performance, but i've owned a much better 2x12") and our old home cinema used to have a subwoofer. i know what bass is and what it sounds like.
