It took 4 tech call outs and 2 STB to finally get an admission ....

My Samsung 46" LCD and UPC Mediabox are not compatible ???
Seems this combination causes the remote (UPC) to go ballistic .
The UPC customer service suggested I use masking tape over both IR receivers to see if it resolves  , are these guys for real ?

I don't believe this for one second as the remote can work fine for 2/3 hours then go mad , surely if this was the issue it would be constant .

Also stated that it's not just a UPC issue but SKY boxes aswell ... Can anyone confirm ?

I have had nothing but issues with UPC.
Between the disaster of the 15mb fibre upgrade fiasco and this , I have had enough .

Yes, have seen your multiple posts on this topic. All replies have given you the same advice on using tape to block out interference from other sources (search for other posts on the subject), but for some reason you have failed to follow that advice. Don't you think you should at least try and see if it solves the problem?

I had the exact same problem with my Samsung tv. They had to swap my box for an older-style one in the end and that works fine now. It has the old EPG and all that though so annoying enough. The tech guy told me they were planning on doing something about it in the future (after all the sporting events are over) with a software upgrade, not sure if this could be fixed with a software upgrade though!

I've posted this elsewhere ... invest in a one-for-all remote. I bought one for 16 euro in Power city and have programmed my UPC HD STB, DVD player, Samsung 40 inch LCD TV and Sony Blu Ray player. There are no issues with the all-for-one remote and the STB.

Is the all one remote quicker. Or is that a stb problem?

Not sure, Boston. It just seems to work. I'm assuming the IR signal is stronger or less prone to interference.
BTW I don't think it's an issue with Samsung TVs only. My previous Phillips LCD had the same issues. Interestingly, we had NO trouble with the SD DVR but when we switched to the HD DVR then the trouble started.
So it's either the STB or RC issue. Either way the All-for-One seems to have done the trick. And it wasn't expensive either. I think it was reduced from 24 euro to 16. Only problem was for the Blu ray player -- it didn't have a code for it. BUT i was able to programme all the essential buttons from the Blu ray remote onto the All for one. So it's doing a great job on the UPC HD box and all my the other attendant bits N pieces.
