Boiled Washing!!

Can any bright spark out there tell me why, when washing machine is set to wash at 40 degrees the washing is almost too hot to take out after wash finishes? Its the first time machine was used in new apt. so I wonder if it is plumbed up possibly to the immersion tank in error? Suggestions welcome please.:confused:

yes plumbed to the hot feed instead of the cold -who installed it ?
