Just after passing my theory and eye test, so also looking into insurance.

On my aul fella's insurance with his current company the quote they gave was €1700

Can anyone recommend cheaper options under the usual criteria (student, 18, prov, etc)

    Thanks

Only one option and thats ring everyone its pot luck on quotes really but you should be able to get it down to around 1200 depending on the car.

Axa and quinn seem to be widely considered the cheapest

Should've mentioned it's on a van that we want to commercially insure, which should bring it down but judging by the 1700, not exactly.

    We'll try them thanks

I'm on a provisional and got insured on a 1.5L Nissan Almeria (am 23) for just over 2K with quoteme.ie. everywhere else wanted to charge me 3.5K so i'll recommend them if you want to give it a shot

also check out britton insurance - 1200 on a 1.3 fiesta and 1700 on a 1.8 rover 75 were what I got quoted from them on an LP... not bad eh!

Agree 100%. The only way to get the cheapest quote is to ring all the insursnce companies and brokers you can find. You'll get much better quotes this way. Trust me i know from experience!

Just sorted my insurance out today, €730 as a named driver on my brothers policy with Axa, not too shabby for a provisional driver in a 1.1 Peugeot 206

That's not bad at all, especially in comparison to mine with my Dad's who's been driving for yonks. On his own he's around 250-350, how could I possibly bring him up to 1700???

Are you comprehensive or 3rd party? Our quote is comp, he's afraid I'll do damage :D

Dad was quoted €1200 to add me to their ploicy so I got him to go on insure.ie and he got quoted €900 for the whole policy..! (frm €1700 to €900 is a big jump), we then priced insurance for the same people on a older, smaller car and it was (surprisingly) €500 depending on the car... :) Now looking into getting a car for me instead..! :P

Anyway.. My advice... Head to insure.ie get a quote (hopefully you'll be surprised) and switch..!

    I should be a insure.ie salesperson..!
