HI All, now i know that this is a renouned factor of Holles Street but can anyone tell me there experiences of parking around the hospital? My wife is due on wednesday and up untill now we've only been in the hospital for 3hrs at a time and could get the street parking close to the area of Holles Street. What are the options for longer term parking without having to run out to the meter every 3hrs? are there any long term parking options with a daily rate? How long does the father usually stay in the hospital with the car close by?
sorry, but its our first and just looking for some advice.
    THanks

Would you try getting a taxi to the hospital? Or having someone on stand by to take you in? Parking is really bad and can be very expensive, I think the nearest day rate car park would be Stephens Green or Dawson St? Would stop you worrying about having to run in and out to feed the meter while your wife is in hospital.

There isn't really anywhere close to park all day. Most dads just have to keep running in and out!

Make sure you keep a bag of change in the car ready for the big event. I think we kept about 50Euro in change and easily went through it while I was in

is it normal to get a taxi in? does that not leave you stranded in the hospital then, or is that what is meant to happen.... that you spend all the time in the hospital and then head home and collect your car after two days or so? once again i aint got a notion as its our first :o

Well depends on how far you live from the hospital... When I was in the Rotunda, my partner drove in when I was being induced and parked in an all day car park (it was only 12 euro) and then moved the car just before 7pm (good thing cos when he got back I was being wheeled to theatre for an emergency section) and then he drove home that night. He then bussed it in every day rather than paying for carparks etc but we didn't live too far from the hospital.

The second time he had to drive as I was in the Coombe and lived in Dublin 11, cost us a fortune in parking because baby was in SCBU for two days so we were kept in longer.

Depends on what you think would be better.

If you do park nearby then I can't stress enough, as the other poster said, get an absolute shed load of change for the parking meter. There are lots of places to park but I found Upper Mount Street the best bet. But could get very close to the hospital on Sunday's as Merrion Square is very quiet then. If I knew I'd be in the hospital all day I parked in Donneybrook and got the bus in and out.

The one thing I would like to get a recommendation on is where is the best place for dad's to get a dinner nearby? The hospital cafe was so-so but could be difficult to get seating. Plus sometimes it was nice to get some fresh air to clear the head.

Well if it is daytime there are plenty of places. There is a pub that does good food on the corner just after pearse dart station, grafton st is not too far.
If it is a bank holiday or out of house there is near nothing but on the bright side you don't need to worry about parking;)

just remember, its maximum 2 hour parking on merrion square

foodwise, come out of the hospital and go right and there is an italian resturant on the corner just after the stork shop.

on the opposite side of road, across from IBB Bank is a nicer and more reasonable place called hungers mother - good coffee - gave the cafe in holles street a miss, its a bit mank and expensive for the what you get

i have a car parking space on holles street but unfortunately it has been booked for the next 2 months by my cousin :D

around the corner from the stork news agents there is free on the street parking but you have to be there early in the morning

I was lucky to live on the train line so I got the train to Pearse Station.
If you are similarly lucky you could do the same, or even drive to a Park'N'Ride outside the city.

I did drive in before the birth - we got parking right outside the hospital because it was 4am on Monday morning.

You can top up the meter by your moblie phone?

Im not sure how but I know it works on the ones outside my sister has it for work and took me in for my check ups,

Otherwise maybe see if someone is renting a space?

    Good luck anyway!!!

When you walk out of the hospital door go to your right. Take a left at the crossroads and then the next right. About half way up on the right hand side of that road is an all day parking place ... literally a 2 min walk from the hospital.

Will depend what time your wife goes into labour i suppose as it wouldnt be open 24 hours. But if its early hours of the morning you will get parking outside the hospital and then move the car to the car park when it open which i would imagine is about 7ish??
