    Hi
Just today the power adaptor for my MacBook stopped working, it's 2 years old.
I have AppleCare - is the adaptor covered by that?
does anyone know where in Dublin I can get one?

What end of the adaptor is gone? There was a call back for fraying of the cables on the adaptors and you may be covered by it; contact Apple and run it by them.

If it's the plug end a simple figure of 8 plug will keep you going till it's sorted out.

well the light that is on the adapter is not working at all - i now have the battery in, tried to power it up earlier without the battery and nothing happening.

oddly i have the power adapter symbol showing as the power source but it tells me the battery is not receiving a charge. in percentage terms it is at 12% and doesn't fluctuate from there, i can leave it on for as long as i want but the percentage doesn't go up or down.

    Charge Information:
    Charge remaining (mAh): 562
    Fully charged: No
    Charging: No
    Full charge capacity (mAh): 4791
    Health Information:
    Cycle count: 314
    Condition: Good
    Battery Installed: Yes
    Amperage (mA): 0
    Voltage (mV): 11154

the above is a summary of what is happening with the battery in and power adapter plugged in also.

Have you done a firmware reset (just in case) ?

Sounds like the battery is dead though, had the same symptoms with my macbook and thought it was unusual symptoms for a dead battery but there ya go. I was freaking in case it was the logic board (out of warranty)!

To firmware reset, power off, and then power-on, but hold the powerbutton until it switches off and on again.

See what happens, worth a shot....With that cycle count you "might" be covered for a new one anyhows, else I dont think applecare covers them.

    just an update on this:

took it to mactivate - they had replaced the logic board on it approx 12 months ago - it wasn't even a year old at the time.

this time they replaced the board that the adapter attaches to when charging. it charges now no problem, both the battery and charger were both working fine.

this is my 1st macbook - luckily i took out 3yrs applecare on it which has paid for all the repairs. otherwise i'd be very broke from all of this. in short my experience with this machine has been pretty bad and i'm not encouaged to buy another in the future. i realise things go wrong etc but a lot of work has been carried out to date on the machine when really it shouldn't have.

if it was a car i'd be looking at a different marque next time around!

It was bad luck, especially for a first machine. But don't be discouraged by it. I've been using Macs for years and never had a single problem requiring repair. And even if you didn't have Applecare, you would still have been entitled to free repairs under Irish law - it just would have involved a bit more hassle.
