    Hello,

I have to attend a high court court case. Thing is, it is listed as being on a 'Monday' and it is the 15th case of the day.

Just wondering if the high court gets through that many in a day ? Just don't want to waste a long trip to Dublin only to have to come back another day !

    Thanks.

How long is a piece of string. Your letter should tell you time and date you are required to appear. Normal enough for cases to be read out of a Monday and appointed dates and times as they are read out. Format of the hearing would depend on what it involves. Your legal rep should be able to advise.

Talk to the solicitor who asked you to attend.

All sorts of variables. Cases can be settled, adjourned, asigned to other judges for hearing that day.

A High Court case can take from 2 to 3 days to months, depending on complexity. On the other hand a case can start, and be stopped in five minutes either because it is being settled, or there is an objection to something counsel said in opening the case.

I would be confident in saying if it is listed for Monday there is only a slight chance it will go ahead on Monday. It will probably be on Tuesday or Wednesday if you are lucky.

    This is not strictly accurate.

Monday does see hearings taking place depending on the nature of the case. Non-Jury actions, Circuit Appeals, and some JR takes place on Mondays.

See, this is why accepting what's posted on a thread might see your case jeopardised, because someone says:

"Ah sure, the chance of it being reached on a Monday is slim"

While I do accept there might be some truth in that assumption, it is a sweeping and broad assumption. Most Mondays in Civil are Motion days - Hundreds of cases are dealt with for procedural matters, which if you are a litigant in person, you should show-up for. The President of the High Court has a list of reserve Judges for hearings on a Monday of other short matters which generally do get/go on.

    Tom
